Wonder if they could correlate this with how many people are living below the poverty line, I bet a lot of those states are in the top 10 too.

When I was broke, I would just be super active with weights and/or sports. If you're broke you might as well look good, lean and up your confidence. Maybe it'll be your luck to get yourself a rich broad.

i cosign this BTB, it seems to be a big corrolation between poor and fat, and alot of these areas also have some of the worst education systems in the nation as well, i wonder really whats going on...

I'd make an assumption that a lot of the problem is poor people can only afford very cheap processed foods. Much cheaper to buy a $1 McD's cheeseburger then it is to go to the local butcher and buy the meat to cook it yourself.

That may be true in some cases, but most of it is people just not having the will power to do what needs to be done followed by people who dont know how to do it right.

Are you joking ? You dont have the slightest idea of what you are talking about .

I have a family of 5 ... me , Carrie and the 3 kids . I can feed us all at McD's for about 25 - 30 bucks ... for that same amount I can feed us for 2 days at the grocery store .

So let me fill you in ...

$30 = i meal for the family at fast food joints .

$30= food for 2 days buying and cooking at home .

BigCorey and Billie are right on .

Low-income Teenagers more likely to be overweight than those in higher income families

    http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/43999.php

Miech said that low-income teens are more likely than higher-income teens to eat junk food, which has limited or no nutritional value and is high in calories. Maureen Black, a pediatric psychologist at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, said that many low-income teens live in environments that do not encourage a healthy diet or exercise.

Most of them are southern states, I'd say 80% of them are down south.

It is very possible to eat healthy cheaply.... Most people have NO CLUE how to do it however and if you're a picky eater (as most Americans are) forgetaboutit.

I'm clinically obese according to BMI. Just thought I'd add that...

A child does not learn to squat from the top down. In other words, he does not suddenly make a conscious decision one day to squat. Actually, he is squatting one day and make the conscious decision to stand. Squatting precedes standing in the developmental sequence. This is the way a child's brain learns to use the body as the child develops movement patterns. Therefore, a child is probably crawling, rocks back into a squatting position with the back completely relaxed and the hips completely flexed, and stands when he has enough hip strength. This approach makes a lot of sense and can be applied to relearning the deep squat movement if it is lost. -Gray Cook

I agree with this. You can shop smart and eat a cheap-healthy diet, it's just a lot of these people don't know and don't care.

Man, I went strawberry picking with my kids and we got tons and ton and it was like $4. It was insane. If everything was this cheap I would pick my own corn and potatoes and kill my own cows and pigs.

Almost all southern states. Probably part of this is that you have to drive everywhere. It's hard to be obese in DC, NYC, etc. Also, I think psychology plays some kind of role. People in big cities care more about how they look. Rural people care less. Imo anyway.

That doesn't mean that they're eating trash because it is "cheaper".

As others (i.e. Brawl) have pointed out, even with the massive increase in food prices, veggies and lean meat are still as cheap as buying Taco Bell & McDonalds for three meals/day.

im very surprised my states of Texas wanst there, when out of the top 10 fattest cities 4 are in Texas im very surprised we didnt make it up there

but alot of it is money and education the only way to get will power is throught education and the better education is affored to those who can amass it and get ahole of it and grow themselves'

all that bs bascially means that if u have more money more opportunity and more puschaisng power u can get better food, less proces food

why does free ranged chicken cost less that farm raised??

why does organic cost more than normal fruit?

why does grass feed beef cost more than corn or grain fed?

so yeah its pretty easy to see why whos fat for what reasons beyond self control becuase there is non, but if u say u dont see why, then ur niave

im just glad i was blesse to see the brighter side

and my gradma called me "acting white" , lord rest er sould cause she was a great woman. because i didnt want to eat pig feet, she said our ancestors ate it, im like yeah they did but it was illegal for them to buy a steak...lol

    ill take the steak

"We didn't have enough to really go shopping, so we'd go to McDonald's," she said. "We just got junk food because it was so much cheaper and it was filling and it tastes good."

There are literally hundreds of articles outlining this.
