I had heard rumors to this effect, but they were just that, rumors. Something about him getting hosed by the WWE or whatever wrestling fed. Beats me

Personally (and I really like Mike) I think he's much much too slow

That was exactly what I was thinking. I know he has lost a ton more weight, but he would have needed to get much quicker. Bobby Fields was fighting for a while. He is a freak. Powerful and very quick. He's probably the last powerlifter I would want to get in the octagon with. Luckily, he's a really nice guy.

Yeah Mike "Mule" Miller hasn't even been in powerlifting for quite a few years now so its understandable why people wouldn't recognize his name.

Here is a recent interview of Mike.

CR, if I'm not mistaken Mike at least used to train with Bobby Fields so maybe there is more fact to this rumor that I believed. I still think he's a little old to make the switch though

There is a picture on his myspace with some mma gloves on so it looks like he might be getting ready to fight. I'm sure we'll find out soon if the rumors are true.

One of the World’s Strongest Men Gets Violent
One of the world's strongest men, Mike Miller, has thrown his hat into the MMA octagon. On a recent episode of the Super Human Radio show, elite Powerlifter turn WWE wrestler, Miller announce he has abandoned wrestling entertainment and is moving ahead into the worlds most violent sport – MMA fighting.

"I've been training in martial arts for over ten years" Miller told the host Carl Lanore during the interview. Miller set the Powerlifting world abuzz when he squatted 1,220 pounds and set a world record.

When he announced he was leaving his position as one of the strongest men in the world for a career as a WWE wrestler he created a buzz again. A short year later he announces he's walking away from the WWE. "I got tired of the politics" Miller offered as his reason for moving into MMA.

"I would be afraid for anyone who steps in the ring with you" Lanore offered to Miller. "With MMA you can't underestimate anybody" Miller replied, "You can't be a big headed guy…. Even the biggest and the best get knocked down."

Miller's strength is only dwarfed by his modesty. But it's clear that Miller's strength can set him apart in the heavyweight division once he works his way through the armature ranks. His sheer power could literally break the bones of his opponents as they attempt to block his monstrous blows.

Weighing in at over 400 pounds during the peak of his Powerlifting career, he has tapered his muscular physique down to 275 and still looks more like a human version of the Incredible Hulk.

When Lanore asked him about his chin and the ability to take a punch he offered a story of when he was a kid working on the farm. Using a six foot pinch bar to leverage heavy stones from the ground, he jumped on the bar and it slipped and hit him square in the chin. The blow would have knocked most men out but Miller simply shook his head and moved on. "You should fight" his buddy said to him when he witnessed it.

Miller spends all of his time training for his MMA debut fight which is due to occur in Fredericksburg, Virginia on November 7. "My coach feels that I'm ready" Miller continued "I just have to drop a few more pounds".

Everyone is behind Miler's MMA goal, his fans and most importantly his biggest supporter his wife Deb. "My family is a great source of strength, physical emotional and mental and my wife Deb is my link" Miller confirmed.

Look for Miller to be breaking bones in an octagon near you as he makes his way through the armature circuit.

You can listen to the entire interview by following this link :: Super Human Radio ::

Carl Lanore is the host of Super Human Radio - an AM Talk Radio show broadcast daily Monday through Friday on a variety of radio stations in the US. The show covers all topics related to fitness and health with an emphasis on exercise, nutrition and longevity. Super Human Radio can also be heard streaming on the Internet at superumanradio.com or any of the top Podcast directories.

Great post Conor! Thanks for that.

This is really interesting. Even though I'm still not so sure about him as he is right now, I like his attitude. Hes willing to learn and respects those who have put in their time. I like that.

Him and Brock might be a decent fight. We'll see how his debut goes

LOL, I'd only heard of the NBA's Mike Miller. He does look like he'd be a slow one though.

He commented on some of this at bb.com in the over 35 section I believe. Seems level headed about it all.

I hope he can make some $$ from it. Probably not the best career move IMO, but I don't know what big Mike does to pay the bills.
A child does not learn to squat from the top down. In other words, he does not suddenly make a conscious decision one day to squat. Actually, he is squatting one day and make the conscious decision to stand. Squatting precedes standing in the developmental sequence. This is the way a child's brain learns to use the body as the child develops movement patterns. Therefore, a child is probably crawling, rocks back into a squatting position with the back completely relaxed and the hips completely flexed, and stands when he has enough hip strength. This approach makes a lot of sense and can be applied to relearning the deep squat movement if it is lost. -Gray Cook

I didn't see this last year, but that Sherdog link is crazy.

I remember Mike Miller from back when I used to post on elitefitness.com. He was a really good guy that was willing to help out any way he could. I remember when he was a bench specialist that never squatted, and then he nailed a 1,000 lb box squat when he trained with a few guys.

But, he looked like a fat slob at 450 lbs (no offense big powerlifter dudes). When I saw the pictures on that site, I thought for sure I was looking at a different person. I can't believe how much different the guy looks.
