    Not digesting fat?

About two weeks ago, I crapped out oil twice. Thinking it was from drinking olive oil, I switched to heavy whipping cream, which is delicious btw, and it didn't happen again until today.

    Diet today, so far, was:

    1.5 cups of cottage cheese
    protein/dextrose shake
    2 cups 2% milk
    24 buffalo wings
    7 slices of pizza

I also take 10 fish oil caps before I go to sleep, and occasionally they come out undigested, so that may be it (although, I should add, oil was orangish first two times, which makes me think it was saturated. Today was just normal yellow-oil color). Is there anything else that it could be?

I've been flamed for saying this before, but I'll say it again. See a doctor. Pooping out anything that isn't poop is bad, I don't care what anyone says.

I assume you are on a bulk? That's some serious eating! I don't think what you describe is all that big of a deal. If you were drinking Olive Oil, it sounds like your body just wasn't able to absorb it all, and some of it passed through. I would worry, just cut down on the intake a little bit.

I would say to try to normalize your diet for a couple of days, 24 buffalo wings and 7 slices of pizza along with milk and protein shakes I can definitely understand why you're having gastro problems.

If it does happen again then you should definitely follow this advice:

Hard to say why this is happening but any time that you have a medical issue where something appears very wrong with your body it is always best to be safe and get yourself checked out.

Most Doctors would probably send you through a number of tests if you came in with these symptoms so I would say for now try eating normally for a day or two and see if that resolves things.

whats the purpose of taking 10 fish oil caps? More is not better with fish oil, in fact more can be detrimental to your mental health. There are some relatively potent chemicals found in fish oil that alter the acetylcholine axis in your brain (it is a neurotransmitter linked to emotion, vigilance/attention, and cognition in general).

    (if they are 1g)

10g of fish oil is a large dose, but not an unheard of dose. Oddly enough, the studies that looked at differences between dosage levels of fish oil found that low doses (1-2g) were beneficial and high doses (8-10g) were also beneficial, but mid-range doses (4-6g) were not beneficial.

This should strike you as very odd!

I figure that the cause of this is midrange doses cause downregulation of acetylcholine receptors in your brain but aren't large enough dosage wise to activate (with brute force) enough receptors...while large doses can overcome the downregulation occurred just by taking the drug and activate what remains with brute force.

Sorta scary if you think about it. I recommend not exceeding 2g a day and also taking semi-frequent breaks from it (maybe 4-5 days 'on' and 2-3 days 'off' a week).

Let your receptors maintain homeostasis...don't bombard them every day with 10g.

    Source?

I've heard of people taking 30+ grams of fish oil a day.

Lyle Mcdonald recommends at least 6grams a day while on low calories. Poliquin is a big proponent of "mega-dosing" with fishoil:

    Q&A with Charles Poliquin

Q: What's one supplement that every athlete, weekend warrior, and basically any active person should be taking daily?

A: Fish oil. I was first introduced to fish oil twelve years ago by my friend Mauro DiPasquale. I was over at his house and he had fish oil on the counter. I asked him what he used it for and he said, "Charles, this is the most important supplement ever."

He told me to go to Medline and punch in any disease known to man and the words "fish oil" beside it. He challenged me to find a study that didn't show how fish oil could benefit in the treatment of any disease. I gave up after 86 studies!

Why is it so beneficial? It's in our genes. Humans used to consume 300-400 grams of omega-3s per week. If we consume more than two grams a day now it's considered a lot.

There was a study published four years ago that showed that if the US government issued three grams of fish oil per day to American citizens, then the amount of cancer and heart disease would go down by 50% within one year. Most readers don't care about cancer and heart disease, but they may care about this: the biggest limiting factor in naturally training people to getting lean and adding muscle is the consumption (or lack thereof) of omega-3s.

Looking at the body structure of cavemen, they had a lot of muscle mass compared to modern man. They got their omega-3s through the meats they ate. Now, they often ate what the predators left. For example, a lion will eat an antelope from the gut on, so what's left is the skull and long bones. Primitive man would break the skull open and eat the brains. Brains are 60% fat, and 60% of that is DHA, the omega-3. What they've found is that the more brain-sucking was going in those populations, the faster the IQ went up.

Primitive man would also break the bones of the prey and suck the marrow, also rich in omega-3, DHA particularly. DHA is the omega-3 most responsible for brain development while EPA is most associated with reducing inflammation.

My athletes would often recognize each other when sitting around a table because those I'd be training would break out the fish oil during the meal. That's how I got the nickname "the fish oil guy" among athletes. But that's also how I get people so lean so fast.

Anyone who wants to put on muscle and lose fat should be on 30-45 grams of fish oil per day. That's just three tablespoons of fish oil. It would be a pain in the ass with capsules though because that's around 45 capsules per day, but it's easy with a straight oil

well, they never mention as far as I can tell that there is DMAE contained within the fish oil. DMAE, like I said, is a potent drug that will alter your consciousness/cognition.

I'll try to find sources later on, but I've been working on and off all day and digging up sources for my work so I'm not going to get right on it

Happened again yesterday night an this morning. I did some google searches and the most common sources of the problem are cashews, a fish called escholar, and possibly alcohol. I can't remember the last time I had any of these, although I probably do average a serving of peanuts a day which may be related to the cashews.

Yes, the fish oil caps are 1g each. I have been taking 10g a day for probably about a year now (that's what Built recommended when she was on here), and I have never had problems. I remember someone else on here explaining that if you ever have a decent sized fish steak, it's gonna have more than 10g of fat in it, so it isn't really all that large of a dose.

I think the problem might be that I may just be having too much fat in one serving on some days. On workout days, I tend to eat a lot of carbs/protein before and after workouts, and then I'll realize I hardly had any fat for the day so I load up on fatty foods before I go to bed. I'll try to split it up more evenly throughout the day. I also rarely eat fruits/veggies, so that might have something to do with it.

It doesn't make sense what you guys are saying about 10g of fish oil being too much. That's about 3g of omega3; it's easy to eat more than that everyday with diet alone. A pound of salmon has about 11g of omega 3.
