I say yes.

You want science and studies? **** you. I've got scars and blood and vomit. - Jim Wendler
I do. I don't think it really matters. What ever stance you prefer to pull with, use it. With this program, I'm pulling wide and squatting fairly narrow. I can't squat wide unless I have my briefs on so it works for me.

i was thinking that too, i'm freaking pumped to get started on this, i'm damn sick of runnin myself into the wall with so much volume from westside type training. i wonder if it would be a good idea to run it doing conventional to pick up lagging muscles then when it stalls then switch back to sumo but i'm unsure if he advised against it.

I'm sure if you asked him that personally, he'd say it doesn't ****ing matter, just pull!

lol i sent him a question on elite with the q/a but he hasn't gotten to it yet so i figured i'd look here instead of waiting.
I have been doing this program since Wendler's first book came out. I started sumo with the DL and a narrow stance with squat. I now cycle out lifts and track rep maxes with different variations to keep things challenging and prevent burn-out:
For DL:
Sumo
Conventional
Deficit
For SQ
Regular SQ
Safety SQ bar
Box SQ
i'd probly attempt that but i like this program for it's sheer simplicity plus with the percentages and the deloads i dont really see there being burnout.
I track my PR's in lifts and keep the list on a clip on my car's sun visor as a reminder. This came from training westside and tracking PR's in many lifts (2-board, 3-board, bench, incline, SQ, Box, DL, Deficit, etc...).
So, I guess I wanted to marry how I've challenged my training in the past with the 5/3/1. You are right and I agree that the rep max and 4-week cycle does prevent the burnout I've experienced in the past.
I've also tried to pay more attention to high and low carb days by reading the elite logs from Starnes and Harris.
oh no i gotta cycle carbs :/ hahahaha, to tell you the truth when i first heard about the program i wanted to cycle exercises too but i'm seeing so many people reporting awesome gains that until more people use the program and give feedback and alter it i'd rather just do it cookie cutter style and reap benefits til it stalls.
I understand...you will see gains and the program is great. Good luck to you man!
