Is it ok to workout 4 days a week but only do 7-8 sets total on each of those days, and work each muscle group twice a week on non consecutive days? Or do you think that is too little volume
I do a 4 day split, usually 9 working sets of compound exercises per day. For the most part each muscle gets worked twice per week; once max effort, the second time more of a dynamic effort. It works pretty well for me.
I say as long as your 7-8 sets are heavy compound movements, you'll be fine. For example, if you have a back/bicep day consisting of 3 sets DL's, 2 sets pullups, 2 sets bent over rows, compared to a back/bicep day consisting of 3 sets pull ups, 2 sets standing curls, 2 sets hammer curls. The first day is obviously the better of the two. The second day is not very efficient or as effective.
