Anyone ever think that these cartoons are pure genius? There are so many that are incredible. Dexter's Lab, Johnny Bravo, Dragonball, Pinky and the Brain, Animaniacs, I am weasel... the list is endless. I watch cartoons now and they aren't as good. Of course, you can say that the cartoons of one's childhood will always be the best... but one major difference I see is that many cartoons from the 90s were a lot more mature in their themes/messages. That could just be me... what do you think?

with absolutely no bias whatsoever.... The 90's had the best cartoons and all the other decades can suck it. Ren and stimpy, rocko's modern life, rugrats, rocket power, hey arnold, and wild thornberrys got me up on saturdays.

I used to love Dexter's Laboratory and Johnny Bravo when I was a kid, but nowadays I think the 60s and 70s were the golden age of cartoons.
I have the pink panther cartoon box set and it is brilliant. Because technology wasn't as good then, and because he doesn't even talk, the plots and gags are really inventive. Constraint usually makes for better art and its definitely the case with pink panther. There are some incredibly surreal shorts done with the most simplistic of set-ups. I don't know of any other cartoon that is done with as much style.
Rocko's Modern Life.
I still watch this show today, and it's still good.
Some of my other favorites that haven't been mentioned: Busy World of Richard Scarry, Little Bear (when I was home sick), Mighty Max, Angry Beavers, Recess, Doug...
Also there are a few gems today as well. Courage the Cowardly Dog (my girlfriend and I love this one) and Chowder are pretty good.

Best cartoon of all time is GI Joe's.
Dragon Ball was actually 80's, but yeah it counts because it aired in the 90's on Cartoon Network/Toonami.
Cartoons of the 90's were great. Actually television shows in generally really, not just the cartoons.
Among others that have already been mentioned...
-Pokemon Season 1
-Recess
-Alvin and the Chipmunks (80's)
-Legends of the Hidden Temple
-Are You Afraid Of The Dark?
-CatDog
-A Goofy Movie (original)

This thread brought back some memories. I watched the cartoons in the 90s, I don't think most of them came from then. G. I. Joes, TMNT, X-Men, Looney Tunes, Tom and Jerry, Doug, Rugrats, Animaniacs, Pink Panther, etc.
I'm with Mike G. My favorite cartoon will always be G. I. Joe.
Did anyone else watch the very old Superman and Popeye cartoons?

It's funny because I just got done reading the same thing for an item I was inquiring about on Amazon. It was for the DVD box set of the cartoon x-men that came on in the 90's. The guy said almost all the exact same things your saying now. We also had spider-man, Batman, superman,The incredible Hulk. I loved all of those shows including the x-men one and yes they were all more mature.
**** I completely forgot about mighty max seriously one of the best cartoons of all time. I actually went online like 4-5 years ago and finished the series because I never got to see how it ended. Another show I like was Monster Rancher was awesome to like pokemon but the animals could talk and had personalities.
Histeria! Anybody else watch it? I loved Batman, Batman: Forever, Pinky and the Brain, Animaniacs and JACKIE CHAN ADVENTURES!
BFGuitar I would also agree with you about the cartoons of the 90s projecting much more mature messages than they do nowadays.
EDIT: Ok - So just to be sure I IMDB'd Jackie Chan Adventures and it actually started in 2000. Oh well, cause I loved it anyway.

Catdog was awesome. Who thinks of that?
Most of the stuff named was high school era for me, but I saw a lot of it withmy little brother. We were just talking about Johnny Bravo at work yesterday--that one was GREAT.

This is so ****ing ******ed it's almost beyond belief. So, if you eat 3k, you will automatically gain 3k worth of fat or muscle? Incredible. And here I am eating all this food, yet maintaining my weight. Fascinating.

Oh snap, Darkwing Duck. The cartoons you all speak of were much better. Used to have much more creative and stimulating plots/characters. Now it's all just crazy sensory overloading with colors and sounds to keep kids out of their parents hair while they are too busy not parenting. I saw a brief clip of a Spongebob cartoon a while back while channel surfing and the background was literally an endless scrolling haphazard neon pattern. It was like an acid trip or something.

By far the best cartoon was C.O.P.S., sure it was from the 80s but it also aired in the early 90s. It's crime fighting time!
