What am I looking for and what am I not looking for on the nutrition facts of anything I eat? I have been doing a lot of workouts and trying to get a diet ready, what things should I not be looking for that are usually on the facts?
The fewer ingredients the better. Also, the more recognizable the ingredients the better. Watch out for HFCS. The rest is pretty intuitive.
With most foods that you should be eating (assuming you want clean food since you are posting this), you won't have to read the nutrition facts anyway(chicken, yams, brown rice, etc..) If you are eating a lot of food that you need to be worried about the nutrition facts for, its probably not the right food in the first place.
Squat: 295
Bench: 210
Deadlift: 335
The top stuff I look at are total calories and protein, carb and fat grams as this gives me a good idea for how it will fit into my diet numbers.
Secondary I look at the amount of sugar in the carbohydrates and also the amount of saturdated fat in the fat.
Amd as nfraher said, as few ingredients as possible. Pick up some grown rice and read the ingredients and then pick up some crappy cereal and you'll see what I mean. The fewer the ingredients, the less proccessed it is normally. If you are sticking to lean, quality food sources, you'll be good anyway.
