Ok, so it's about time we did a powerlifting article
Ryan Celli, Travis Bell, Scott Yard, A.J. Roberts, Adrian Larsen, and Vinnie Dizenzo all have one thing in common - they are masters at the bench press.
Our very own, Steve Colescott got on the phone and picked their brains, and was rewarded with some useful tricks and techniques to help anyone go from benching a weight that weenies might use for curls to driving up a bar that rattles a bit.
A bench press PR is right around the corner!

I just wanted to thank Daniel, Chris, and Steve for including me in this piece. I think it turned out great, with some very good information you just can't get anywhere else. Keep up the good work guys!
If anyone has any questions about anything I said, let me know!

Let me toss that thank you back to the athletes I interviewed for the article. The best part about what I do is the opportunity to keep learning things as I write.
I typed out about 8,000 words from the interviews I did for this article so, if Daniel and Chris want a second part made up from what I had to cut out, it would provide more info and justify the carpal tunnel I acquired in my week-long transcribing.
I was honored to be grouped with such great lifters and to be part of such a great article. Awesome job Steve. Thanks to Daniel and Chris for efforting it.

I thought it was a good article, but I was a little disappointed to not see an interview with Jeremy Hoornstra, who is one of the greatest Raw Bench pressers. He hold the 242 World Record with a 615 lift and an unsactioned 635 and 700 lb lift. I would like to hear some of his advice!! Thanks from a new lifter!!!!
Great article.
Part 2 would be nice.
Jeremy is not sponsored by Atlarge.

Can't go wrong with input from that list of accomplished lifters! Kind of neat to see how the guys differ in the training that they use and how each method seems to work for them? I mean we are looking at YEARS of tried and tested methods and these guys have opened their books to let us all have a little glimps of what they have learned to work for them! COOL! LOL probably leads me to asking myself too many questions about refining my training but I will just stick to listening to my "bench mentor"! (After reading the article I decided to find one!)
This REALLY is a great site and this article is just another reason why I have decided to hang out right here at Wannabebig.com!
GREAT article fellas, keep pushing!
Great article. Thankyou to all involved in publishing it.
Can't wait 'til tomorrow, 'cause I get stronger every day!
This is a really great article. Amazing the pool of information, it should be on the cover of a magazine in the checkout line. This is coming from an aesthetically driven bodybuilder who has little regard for barbell bench strength. I particularly liked ryan cellis comment on deloading. Its almost like it came out of nowhere, 10 years ago you never heard the word. These days it seems like everyone wants to take a break as soon as the going gets a little tough. Anyhow, great article, tons of take home and reputable advice for anyone from the casual lifter to bodybuilder to powerlifter.

There is only ONE PLACE in Pittsburgh to train... Celli's Fitness Center / 3356 Spring Way / Pittsburgh, PA. Phone 412.894.8234 if your GPS doesn't get you there.
Tell the person at the desk that you read "Bench Kings" and they will give you a crisp fifty-dollar bill. This is limited to families of six or less and goes on until the end of 2010!
(Okay, I made that last part up, but if you live near there, you should check the place out)
LOL @ Steve! Thanks brother.

good read.
I must say, I like this mix of AtLarge product placement and the original content. I thought it would be kind of lame and gimmicky (because it usually is in the bodybuilding/fitness industry), but I've been enjoying these articles quite a bit.
