    Power rack check question

So I have been checking on craigslist for a rack and I got an email about a club/weider 560 rack. I know most weider stuff is junk but it seems good. The issue if the Manuel says the weight rests are only supposed to support up to 300lbs but the guy says he has had 500 + on them before and even sent me a picture with 405 sitting on it. Anyone had any experience with this rack? [IMG][/IMG]

I would go by what the manufacturer says it is rated to hold. Just because the owner has had more weight on it doesn't mean it was safe.

unless that thing is 40 bucks and you won't ever surpass 300 lbs, i wouldn't get it.

It looks like the pins can only be set at bench height. The holes don't go very far up at all. I don't see how you'd squat in it.

    Thanks for taking a look.

The safety bars are rated at a much higher rating. So that is the main thing. I just won't leave the weight on the pegs that long.

It was $100 and really seems built well.

The safety bar only goes up so high but the pegs go up much higher.

We have a Powertech that's rated at 1500 lbs. and is usually priced at around 475.00 on several internet distributor sites. We've been using it for over a year at "Monster Barbell" and still love it. At the price it's very hard to beat and you'll never 'grow' out of it strength wise. As a rule for serious equipment, if it says Weider on it; pass on it. Especially if you are a powerlifter.

The guys that make the weider equipment could care less about it actually working well, and are even more happy that more americans are getting fat and buying their products to not even use them, creates a profitable cycle for them. At least that is what I heard the CEO say once, not word for word, but the basics of it.

If it says the maximum is 300lbs, then it can probably support much more than that. You always put a decent margin of safety for these things. That said, if they put a max of 300lbs, it's because they wanted to cut costs on the material and that the rack is probably junk.

It may be rated for 300 lbs, and you may have pictures of 405 resting on the pins, but what you dont have are videos of 405 crashing into the pins. Unless you plan on looking at 405 on the pins from across the room, there are much better options.
