Two weeks ago I entered into a full meet for the first time and decided to use a squat suit after only lifting in 3 times. The suit has velcro straps which I made pretty tight. On my second attempt I felt a sharp pain between my shoulder blades that went up into my neck. I was able to make my thrid attempt but the pain greatly affected my bench. SInce then my left leg has been going numb. I am going for x-rays tomorrow but was wondering if anyone else has ever suffered similar injuries from squating?

Two of my training partners have fractured vertebrate, but it could also be something less severe.
Are you going to a chiropractor or an orthopedic doctor?

Are you having XRays or a MRI? With radiating pain, it sounds like some degree of nerve/disc involvement. That type of problem won't show on a XRay. Although I've never met a chiropractor that didn't find something "treatable" on XRay.

I know you're half-crazy, but I wish you'd go all the way.

I have had the same problem before I squatted heavy all fall and winter and then when spring came around I was having the same symptoms as yourself, so I went to the chiropractor and was god that my spine was compressing and if I didn't take it easy for awhile I was going to slip a disk and after awhile of light squatting at 225 for about almost 2 months and stretching and hyrdo therapy I am back to normal but just don't do anything to further aggravate it take time to let it heal it worth waiting instead if surgery

Keep us posted. Hopefully won't take long for you to know the results if you had the tests done yesterday.

Well xrays came back with only spurs. Not surprising. Now I have to go see a specialist to determine what kind of MRI I need. I've been working bench the last two weeks with very little side effects from my back. I am a bit hesitant to do squats or deads until I know for sure what the problem is.

Wouldn't recommend squatting until you get it all straightened out.
That's a good sign that the symptoms have subsided since you quit though.

Did they say what specifially caused it? The only thing I can think of is I was using a squat suit for only the 3 or 4 time and the straps pulled my shoulders back and down with enough pressure as I squatted to pull something in my upper back. Of course I can only speculate until I get an MRI. It has been feeling much better over the last few weeks and the numbness in my leg has gradually been less.

My wife just tweaked a muscle /around her shoulder blades..... just didn't have the upper back strength to handle the weight yet..... she built it back up only to have a few disks put out from a car accident...... and now a year later is finally getting back under big weights...... Xray showed that she was perfectly fine, MRI told the real story.
Get the MRI for sure..... after that rehab, rehab, rehab...... ice massage helped a lot. Then work on building up the supporting musculature so that you can handle the heavier weights you suit lets you move......

Well I'm still waiting to see the specialist and get an MRI, Sep 1. I have been going to a chiro but not sure it has helped. I have been doing some bench and upper body work with caution but still no squats. I have worked out a few times after going to chiro but it seems the next day I am almost crippled with pain. So not sure if it's the workout or the chiro or both causing it. Hopefully after I see the specialist I will finally have some idea of what is going on. Not being able to lift is killing me.
