While 1 arm movements with dbells or kbells are common, 1 arm barbell stuff is not seen too much these days. L0ts of Old School greats did these things and swore by them. Do any of you find these of value or do you consider them a novelty?
Forgotten Strength Secrets
You mean 1 arm barbell curls? LOL
Jokes appart, I donīt think you are going to see too many of these here.
i dont think he means one arm barbell curls.
those type of exercises may be better utilized by some training in martial arts seeing as some of those lifts put your body in some awkward angles.
they are not necessary for someone whos bodybuilding, powerlifting, or someone who lifts purely for fun. (i.e.- the vast majority of bodybuilders/powerlifters today dont use them) Strongman may get use of them.
I suggest if they keep you lifting, and you find them fun, why not?

I think one arm barbell snatches are awesome.
I saw a guy doing one arm rows with a barbell in the gym yesterday. He was spending more time balancing the weight than actually lifting it.
Edit, just got what you said, yes that is similar to using the t-bar row machine. The guy I saw doing the 1 arm rows was just trying to grip the middle of the barbell and row it like a giant dumbbell. It was very awkward.

I do them from time to time, they can be challenging, help break the monotony and keep workouts interesting.
And I do feel they have some utility, I do 1 arm bbell snatches, bench press, standing curls, standing OH press.
In speaking with Dave Tate about training, he posed to me whether a particular lift would help me reach my goal. I can say without hesitation a one armed barbell movement is not going to help my bench. I don't see them helping my squat or deadlift either. Frankly, for me I see them doing more harm than good.
