    No Longer Wanna Be Skinny!

    Hey All,

I'm new to this forum and figured that someone on here might be able to help me with the issue i've been having. I'm a 20 y/o male at 148 and 6'0"... pretty slim. Recently i have been working out in the gym doing some weight training to gain mass, but i have been having a problem tightening up my midsection and, most importantly, sides. I'm seeing growth everywhere else except that area. Does anyone have any advice for tightening up the sides whether it be new exercises, supplements, or diet tips?

Currently my diet is low in calories and fats..

You're not making any sense. Let's review the facts -

    1. You don't want to be skinny.
    2. You're 6'0" and 148lbs. note - you are skinny
    3. You're having trouble at becoming even more skinny in the midsection.
    4. Your diet is low in calories and fats.

Solution - Eat a shitload more, disregard midsection and sides at this point in time, lift heavy weights, read up around here to get a good handle on what you're doing.

I agree with Behemoth. Your midsection probably just looks big because the rest of you isn't developed. Gain some solid muscle/size and you'll probably look at yourself differently. But you cannot gain muscle/size on a reduced calorie diet. Start eating for your goals.

I could see how one could be confused. but, what I meant to say was im having trouble toning up my abs, especially with my sides. I dont want to get slim, just have more tone so I can see the "V" shape in my abs. But, i do see where you're coming from.

My advice bulk up then cut. It's still confusing. You want to tone but not be skinny. Eat big lift big. Everything will fall into place.

Like I said in my other post, gain some size in your body and you will develop that v-taper. You aren't going to get it from shrinking your mid-section unless you already have a decent ammount of muscle mass. But I tend to doubt that you do given your height and weight.

LOL. OP means original poster. Meaning the person who started the thread.

Terrible choice of words. Decide on your goals, then chase after them. If you want more muscle, your diet should reflect that. If you want to "tone" your diet should reflect that.

Like others have said, "eat a crapload more". After reading around on this site for a year, or so, I finally decided to do just that. Eat a ton, and drink a lot of milk. I've gained about 15 pounds over the past 1+year. Now, "they" always warn us old guys (I just turned 50) about being careful when eating a ton. We get fatter a lot easier. well, my midsection has gone down 1 1/2" and my chest/back has increased about the same. So, and this is so boring to hear, do a ton of compound exercises and eat, eat, eat. If it works for an old dude like me, imagine what it'll do for someone your age.

Yeah, it ticks me off that this web site wasn't around 25 yrs ago when I was his age.
Debt Ceiling? Let's say, you come home from work and find there has been a sewer backup in your neighborhood.
And your home has sewage all the way up to your ceilings.

What do you think you should do? Raise the ceilings, or pump out the shit?
Your choice came and went in November 2012.

the more muscle you put on, the more fat you will naturally burn during the day. Consistency is vital. Get on a scheduled lifting schedule. and eat clean. dont restrict your calories at this point. just eat a balanced diet. high protein, moderate carb, low-mod fat.
