Is anybody here an introvert too?

Friday night and my friends want me to "go out and have fun and stop being such a loser". For the longest time, I thought there was something wrong with me mentally but then I read this:

    http://briankim.net/blog/2007/10/top...ut-introverts/

That's pretty much me to a T. I emailed it to all my friends and hopefully they'll stop pestering me to go out.

I think that's why I like lifting weights so much. It's a solo hobby and it helps relieve stress and recharge.

Anybody else a proud lone wolf introvert?

I would consider myself one, yes.

Though that site looks shady and poorly formatted.

i didnt click the link, but yes im a "proud lone wolf introvert". if im not at the gym or at work i dont leave the house. i sit alone and watch anime/play video games. i literally have ONE friend, and we dont do much. if we do its just hanging out here at my apartment. i would consider myself to be what is commonly referred to as a "loser", but i dont really care. im fine with the way i am
I may have "Love" on my head, but i have Hate in my heart.

Yes. I let most calls go to voicemail so I can think over whether I really want to do something or not. Or even talk.

Introvert here. I am nice if you talk to me, but I generally dont go out of my way to have conversations and I pretty much can't stand 95% of people I come across. I can't stand going out either. Pointless to me unless I was single again. If I want to hang out with friends I prefer a quiet bar atmosphere. If I am single and prowling then yes, a club or something similar.

Lol I thought I was the only one that did this. Sometimes I don't even return the voicemails if I don't want to fight about going out. It helps cut down on the calls

I enjoy introverts. They usually stay quiet and let me talk about me.

It secretly angers me if anyone talks to me at the gym, since that means that I now have to say Hi every time I see that person, or I'll feel rude. Does that make me an introvert?

Yes! I'm totally like that. Also I heard of a story of someone who got in trouble for not making eye contact with fellow employees in the hallway and saying hello. WTF. Only in corporate America. That employee apparently got "training" from HR.

Why is it that corporate America insists everybody is a social buddy buddy 24/7? Fuuuuuu. Introverts need to take over this country and change some rules.

I used to be an introvert, when I was younger. Massively into my video games, anime, role-playing games and so on.

I still am into those things now, but I balance a good social life with it too. Nothing wrong with being either way, really, but I do enjoy having friends and going for drinks.

Good point. Balance is important. I think I'm more like 80/introvert 20/extrovert. Good enough balance for me

My company is like that too. I have been in trouble more than a few times for my 'bad attitude'. I told them it's not in my job description to make friends.

I like to go out and be social several times a week but I recharge myself when I am alone. What does that make me?

I would say I lean that way, but I can certainly appear quite extroverted when I want to. I can be the one who carries a conversation at dinner etc. In the end, I value my alone time greatly.

    Introvert.

Introvert does not mean antisocial by any means- intro verses extrovert is more about what truly satisfies you and makes you feel at ease/recharged. Extroverts are more likely to WANT to go out to a happy hour with friends to relax after a long week, whereas an introvert may prefer the quiet evening with the dog to recharge.

Introvert does not mean socially awkward, uncomfortable in social situations, etc.- those are all different things entirely. Likewise, not all extroverts are social butterflies- some are socially awkward and/or unpleasant to be around, but they still seek out other people/external stimuli.

So this really has more to do with personal preference (what rewards and comforts you) versus what you're good at. For example, my mother is an introvert (hard core- would hugely prefer a quiet walk in the woods or drink by the fire with her dogs than a dinner party with friends), but was always known overseas for being an absolute socialite, hosting parties, bringing friends together, etc.

I guess i'm kind of one. I basically have my girlfriend aka soon to be wife, a best friend or basically brother of 13+ years, and my gym partners. All other friends i see once or twice a month if not less. Theres nothing wrong with being alone sometimes. One of my favorite things to do is get in my car grab a coffee and take a long ride to process life.

Introvert here. Interesting that this seems to be a pretty common thing with weightlifters, or at least the more successful ones. The extroverted people at the gym are never getting anything done, I've noticed.

That being said, socializing is extremely important. I basically holed up in my apartment for a year, barely went out, got a lot of reading and writing done. I got used to it, and convinced myself that it was good, but when it came down to it I grew very depressed. Moderation is key.
