So the guy says to Lehman, "'Nice car. What kind of rims you got on there?'" and Lehman said, "'That's a stupid question," and punched him twice in the face.
Unbelievable.
What a douche bag.
PUYALLUP, Washington —
A 21-year-old Puyallup man is in a coma after prosecutors said he was punched twice for making a comment about the rims on another man's car.
James Foster remains in Tacoma General Hospital on life support with severe head injuries.
Pierce County Prosecutors said Foster was punched by 25-year-old Daman Lehman outside a Puyallup bar Friday after he complimented the rims on a car Lehman was riding in.
"He loves cars, and he said, 'Nice car. What kind of rims you got on there?' and (Lehman) said, 'That's a stupid question,' and he hit him," James' father, Darrell Foster said.
According to a probable cause document, Lehman suddenly hit Foster once in the face. Eyewitnesses said Foster stood motionless, then Lehman hit him again, this time much harder. Foster fell to the ground and struck his head on the pavement. Witnesses said they heard Lehman say, "I put people to sleep, that's what I do," as he left the scene.
Lehman was arrested after gave police the license plate number of the car he was riding in. Prosecutors said he confessed to attacking Foster during interviews with investigators.
He pleaded not guilty to first-degree assault in Pierce County Superior Court. He is free on $75,000 bail.
"That was hard because (James is) laying there, fighting for his life," said Lisa Foster, James' mother, after Lehman's court hearing.
"If the glass (at the courtroom) wasn't there, I think I would have gone through the glass," Darrell Foster said. "You want to choke him, you know? You look at him and you think, 'My son's in a coma.'"
James Foster's parents said doctors have given them little hope of his recovery.
"They have no idea, they have no idea," Darrell Foster said. "They said he might never wake up, he might not talk."

This is certainly unfortunate.
I don't want to get flamed and have people mistake this for me defending Lehman, but the comments on this page from Chloe at least tell the other side of the story.

Again, I'm not defending Lehman. But I was a bit suspicious of the story that he punched this kid totally out of the blue after the kid simply sincerely complimented his car.
Again, not defending Lehman. Not defending Lehman. Just want to say again, that I'm not defending Lehman.
You mean this:
"To who ever wrote this and all the people commenting, Know that facts first!!! This is not what really happened. Little James is not as inocent as the media is portraying. What they forgot to add was he was drunk and harassing Daman and his wife ALL night. They tried to leave and James followed them out and made a smart ass comment about his rims. It is funny how so many feel they really know the story when they dont. I am not trying to justify what Daman did was right but sounds like James deserved to get punched in the face."
Rarely are stories ever so simple... i.e. the Martin case. More often than not, they're good examples of how easily a relatively mild confrontation can escalate into life changing events, where people can end up permanently injured or dead.

^^ That's the comment I was referring to. And that is exactly my read on it as well.
There's a guy that lifts the same time as I do in the morning before work. He's big and strong as an ox. Former college offensive lineman.
He came in one Monday morning and was really agitated. He told me a that he had spent most of the weekend in jail. What happened was, he was going to some event. He parked in the parking lot, walked most of the way to the gate, and remembered he forgot something, so went back to his jeep.
(Here's where I can't remember the story too well, so this might not be 100% accurate, but I'll try to give the gist).
When he got there, he saw someone had smashed out his window. He sees one shady looking character and confronts him. The guy apparantly pulls out a knife. He picks up a rock that is close by, basically bull rushs the kid with the knife, and smacks him with the rock in his hand. The kid basically is knocked out cold.
Pretty much at the same time, two other kids come. He ends up fighting one, while the other one jumps on his back. Amazingly, NOBODY jumps in to help this guy. They all stand around and watch. Luckily, these other two are not armed.
Well, he subdues both these guys. Then the cops come, grab him, force him to the ground, and take him to jail where he spends 24-48 hours.
When I saw him, he had pretty much just gotten out of jail and was being charged with assault. Lucky for him, the kids weren't badly hurt. The kid he hit with the rock had to go to the hospital, but was released.
The charges ended up getting dismissed against him. The three punks were charged with "theft".
As an aside, this "friend" of mine also happens to be finishing his Phd. in chemistry (or biology. He told me what he was studying a while ago). He's obviously anything but a "muscle head". Is actually a very mild mannered and respectful guy. But he does dress and act like a "meat head" most of the time.
Not sure exactly what my story means in the context of the OP's story. No direct parallels. But I don't like to automatically condem someone based on a one-sided media version of the facts.
I have to agree with the both of you. When I first read this the first thing I thought was "no way." Glad to see the otherside of the story that isn't being blown out of propotion by the media.

^^Kid seems like kind of a dumbass. Why would you rush someone brandishing a knife while armed with just a rock? This isn't Braveheart.
If you dress and act like a meathead, how are you not a meathead?
My version may or may not be 100% accurate. But when you are "in a situation" you make split second decisons, often times based on emotion (he was pissed off). The kid was sort of a skinny "skater" type from what he told me. And just because you are holding a knife doesn't mean you have any idea what to do with it. From the way my friend told the story, he didn't give the guy any time to react at all. He simply grabbed a rock on the ground and went at him. The kid was basically scared sh!tless and froze.
He likes to come off as a meathead. He enjoys the paradox of being a huge man that is also very smart. He loves to play off people's prejudices (big dumb meathead) and make them feel foolish when they realize that the is not only 10x stronger than them, works 10x harder than them, but he is also 10x smarter than them.
I guess I don't watch enough E!... who the hell is Daman Lehman?

I knew there was more to this story. Granted, guys like Lehman are the type just WAITING for moments like this so they can "show how tough they are". I bet the moron still thinks it was worth it.
Makes me think of The Dirty Dozen:
"You beat an officer to death!"
"I only hit him once..."
"Yeah, and drove his jawbone straight into his brain!"
Not very smart in this case. The guy was far enough away that he had to "bum rush" him. Doesn't that mean he was probably far enough away for your boy to get into his car and call the police. I do think people need to hear all the facts before judging. Look at twitter and people are saying this guy should kill himself. Just the facts being posted don't make it seem like he made a good choice. This site doesn't make him look good either, obviously biased
