So I was having lunch with my wife today, and we at Mexican. And I got to thinking about ethnic foods. I'm no food expert, but when someone says "Mexican" you can pretty much visualize what you're going to get. And that seems to be the same for many cultures. "Chinese" has been Americanized, of course, but still, if you say "Let's have Chinese" people know what you're talking about. I suppose American food to others would be barbecue or steak or hamburgers and such. My family origins are German, and I can rattle off a handful of German foods. Thai. Indian. Greek. French. Irish. Etc.
But no one ever says "Let's have Canadian tonight!" Why is this? Does their food suck? Perhaps they don't eat? I'm tellin' you, there's something just not right in this equation. I have this theory that they're all cyborgs who are planning on taking over the earth, and they don't need food! But my wife says I'm wrong.
Debt Ceiling? Let's say, you come home from work and find there has been a sewer backup in your neighborhood.
And your home has sewage all the way up to your ceilings.
What do you think you should do? Raise the ceilings, or pump out the shit?
Your choice came and went in November 2012.
Because their food is a hybrid of French and American cuisine. Canada, like the English (and frankly the majority of the world) has been westernized to their respective extents.
Are there dishes that you will find only in Canada? Yes, but as said above, I'd say French before anything (poutine for example).

We pretty much eat the same stuff that you eat in the states. Thought I do find that there is a disproportionately higher ratio of snack cakes to regular food in the states as we have here in Canada. I remember walking into a grocery store once, seeing an entire aisle of the damn things and thinking to myself; how different can't all these things really taste??
We eat pretty much the same things in french Canada too except maybe for poutine. But just like anywhere else, the guy eating only bad cafeteria food will have a completely different diet than a bodybuilder... What do people mean when asking "What do xxx eat"? If you go into Quebec city's old downtown, you'll find a lot of exotic restaurants (French cuisine for instance) that I never go to because they're too expensive (and parking options suck) and many of them are targeted at tourists or fancy people. Similar thing with Montreal. Those tourists are then impressed by the strong French influence. But apart from the language, we don't have much to do with France. Otherwise you'll find the same kinds of restaurants you would see in the states.
