This makes me sad. Why on earth isn't she squatting with a prosthesis?

I've trained several amputee athletes, including AKs, and they all use their prosthesis to squat. Granted, there aren't too many prosthetists out there who can design a leg with the proper knee articulation and load distribution, but I happen to know the two best.

It's great to see and all, but she's doing so much harm to her overall posture and balance by training one leg like that- her residual limb on the other side should be working twice as hard, otherwise the amount of joint issues these athletes get later in life becomes staggering- she may wind up with complete atrophy in her residual limb, and various overuse injuries in her "good" leg that could leave her in a wheelchair.

I know that wasn't the point of posting the video, but as someone who's worked with these athletes for close to a decade, this actually makes me cringe.

I think you took his comment out of context. He was only pointing out, from working with similar clients, that there is a safer way to train/perform the movement.

I guaran-fucking-tee you I have worked with and supported more high caliber amputee athletes than almost any coach out there, so don't get me twisted.

I'm concerned about her as someone who is one of the only individuals in this entire country (to my knowledge) who specializes in strength training amputees.

I am not saying she should not squat. Far from it.

I am pointing out that the way she is squatting will destroy her good leg, cause significant back/hip problems, and is not the way to stay healthy, for ANY amputee. I would rather hook her up with a top level prosthetist (of which I have one in mind) who can get her fitted with a custom leg that would increase the likelihood that she will be squatting five years from now and not nursing a blown out knee or ruptured disc.

Believe me, my girlfriend is an amputee ultramarathoner and ironman triathlete, I would be the last person on earth to tell any one of these folks that there is anything they are not capable of doing- I just want to make sure they're doing it the best way possible.

He made very valid points. You're just not bright enough to understand that and instead take the "dude STFU" stance... You only made yourself look bad.
