Last week on wednesday i was at the start of my chest/triceps workout and i began by doing push ups with handles. I'm pretty sure that that was what kicked off my left shoulder injury. The pain is located on my left shoulder bone, the right shoulder is perfectly ok.
Before last week i had not worked out for about 3 years (it's only recently i have seriously done proper workouts) and i began without doing stretches. I then did shoulder exercises on the friday and did them all despite the excruciating pain in my shoulder. Over the weekend my shoulder seemed to recover.
Now, today i once again began on push ups with handles and the pain surged back!
My form on the push ups was fine, i did them nice and slow and with hands at a wide width. I'm assuming the pain may possibly be down to lack of stretches but that doesn't explain the perfect condition of the right shoulder. Is the lack of stretching the main problem here? And if so, are there are good stretch exercises you could recommend that you yourselves have used?
Thanks guys (and girls)
Stop doing pushups with handles and start doing proper warmups before your workouts. If you know something agitates your shoulder or potentially a shoulder injury stop doing it. Especially something unnecessary like pushups with handles.

I would bet your have a knot somewhere in your rotator cuff or close to your trap. Take a foam roller, lacrosse ball, softball, basebal, etc, and either against a wall or on the ground roll around near the point of pain.
