guys, i work on ship, and i managed get a gym toagather, to do squads i use the smith machine, it has pins which can move but i read some where that not good . Is true, when im onmy time of i do normal sqauds using a bar only , and it does feel better.

It's not ideal to be using only the smith machine but I'd certainly choose it over not squatting at all.

The deal with squatting with the smith machine is that you can lean into the machine and won't be using stabilizing muscles and will activate less motorunits.
what is the reason why you want to use the smith machine with squatting?
If that is all you have, then go with it bro. It would be more dangerous to not do squats at all, in my opinion....
