    For the girls in here...

Why is it, that most heavy or obese women will spend $60 on hair , $30 on nails $30 on tanning beds each month.....but when they go out try to hide their body? Well I know why , let me ask this why do some women think they can not afford a gym membership @ $40 but spend $120 trying to look better, only to be embarassed by their size? I think most guys would agree a hot bod is better than perfect hair and nails......

I guess I don't understand why you're asking "us" (the women here; we're all into fitness an not obese)...just because we possess a similar set of plumbing doesn't mean we're all the same or understand why some of us do whatever...

It's a mystery to me too, man...

I should think the answer is obvious, dude.

Getting your hair/nails/tan done is EASY and it can make a girl feel pretty, regardless of her size.

Getting buff requires hard work, privation and commitment, which not everyone can manage. I ain't saying it's right, I'm saying that's how it is.

You're also assuming that said 'heavy' women are getting their hair/nails/tan done for YOUR benefit... what if they are doing it for themselves, and don't care that they're chubby?

i think its kinda distgusting to see fat women in little dresses...
in a recent ricki lake episode, this really fat lady complains her bf is too fat, but she weighed more than him! then she says she doesn't have to lose weight cuz she has "fat in the right places" BLECH

While I'm a guy, I would say it's because most people view the gym as work.. whether your a guy or a girl. Once you get into it, it's like a high.. but for the first bit, you have to force yourself to go each time. Also, there's a complete lack of knowledge that the general public has on how to change their appearance. Chances are, quite a few of those girls have tried to work out, but after spending hour after hour on the treadmill with absolutely no results (not the perfect body like informercials promised them), gave up.

Also, like someone else said, maybe they get their nails/hair/whatever done to make them feel better.. you know, just relax.

I pay for a gym membership (and in fact live there) and also pay to get my nails/hair/whatever done too. Does that mean I am still trying to hide the way I look?

I think some women will pay for the 'easy' stuff because its the absolute least they can do to make themselves feel more attractive. If I was obese, I'd still get my nails/hair/whatever done because at least my toes would still look cute in sandals (although my feet and ankles would be swollen and probably cover the sandal).

Haha well I am not obsese but here are the answers to your questions At least reasons I go

I get my nails done (and toes) becuase I like to. I like having nice looking hands and feet, I think its attractive and cute

I go to the tanning salon because I hate tan lines and I even them up in the salon

I spent $140 on my hair last week at the salon, WHY? Because I wanted it just right, done by someone who wouldnt butcher me and guess what. It came out amazing and I have never been so pleased with the results.

I go to the gym one sometimes twice a day (more recently twice a day) 6 days a week. Sunday is my off day. I am in good shape (least I think). I am still working on everything of course. My body will always be work in progress I wont ever give up the gym!

I LOVE to take care of myself and be the best I can be all around. So thats why I love to take care of myself I want my outside to be as radiant as my inside

Anyways, some women are pleased with where they are. Why are you so worried about what others are doing? Let people do what makes them happy, whatever it may be!

    *shrug*

I don't tan (except for what I get outside in summer activities), don't do the nail thing, and don't spend much $$ on my hair...sorry I can't give any input on these.

hmmm interestingly enough I just realised that I am the opposite. I have gone through my bouts of neglecting the gym for a few months and it's during my time off, that I don't bother with the hair or nails so much . It's only when I start looking fit and better again ,that i'll spend the added money on my hair or nails, yes I do the nails, for a good reason mind you.
Anyways, just shut yo mouth cack about my make up expenditures

    dunno, don't care.

actually i get my hair cut because it needs it or the ends look fried. i don't get my nails done, i actually think it's the worst thing you can do to them as a matter o fact (putting tips on) and besides as rough as i am on my hands, a manicure wouldn't last the day. i get my tose done because i like having pretty feet. and i don't need to tan so i don't.

but that's just me...i couldn't give a rat's ass why anyopne else may do what they do or don't. it's all about me..this is MY world. *snap*

    i dont really do anything
i wear what i want.. i get my haircut if i want..
i dont get my nails done cause i dont really ever look at them
they break anyways cause i am always using my hands so..
i dont try to impress anyone. they should like me for me.. they dont have to see silky hair and sparkly nails and whatever
women probably do that because it makes them feel better
it might give them something to distract them from the "faults" or something..
"i dont have to look at my weight, i can just get my hair permed"
    i dunno.. i need sleep

My question was from what I see in the office all the time. Women who do as I described, always getting"dolled up" but then constantly tugging on oversized clothes to hide the butt, gut, hips, etc......

I know that most every women in here is in fine shape or working on it.......

as far as spending money on make-up , hair, nails I think that is fine...but in the circumstances I am talking about, it seems that they have are trying to cover-up what they seem to think is enemy number one , ( their weight)and focus on the hair, make-up, tanning etc...but never address the weight that they complain about while eating 4 slices of pizza, large fries and a diet coke......and then when one of the few"tight bod" girls here walk by that is not all "dolled up" they are saying how beautiful she looks, I wish I was in her size 4 or what ever....

Again I was not trying to blast any woman that "grooms" and takes care of herself...or does something that makes them feel better or just enjoys, I think ALL women have something beautiful about them, even heavy ones...well unless their personality sucks, and they do not groom themselves....

I guess I have this crazy notion, if I could get some insight on why they do it, I could some how help them to get motivated to work on the weight as well.......or maybe it really is none of my business, but I know it would make most of the feel better and help their confidence.....I think we all agree in here that when we feel better about ourself, it makes all the work worth it........
