Tryme,
So I guess you want to improve you over all size and body composition? Well lets get you pointed in the the right direction. If you not already following a workout program, I would suggest the HCT-12 program.
Here's a link to the info:

What is you current diet? I see that you 17.9 percent bf, I would assume you not a hard gainer.

Same height as me and also from England, I see.
I started at 25yo @ 10st7. HCT-12 was the first year or so of my training and it packed on some serious mass and strength.
Now I'm sitting at 14st, looking and feeling pretty built, even though there's a long way to go.
I'd second Matt's suggestion of HCT12, though others on this forum have had good results with 5/3/1 too.
You'll find some people on here won't have a lot of praise for Starting Strength lol.

1 stone = 14 lbs
Starting Strength is not the program for your purposes.
HCT-12 is an excellent program. There are other programs in articles on this site you can certainly consider.
I disagree. While there are several good programs out there, starting strength is a great program for beginners all the way to moderates. I would buy the book if I were you and read it twice. TONS of great info in there.
Heck, I did the SS routine for almost a year and it's what got me into lifting.

Sandcracker21,
I'm going to have to disagree with you on this one. You do not have to lift in a powerlifting styled manner to achieve this look. I've done competitive bodybuilding and transitioned to bodybuilding. I'm carrying was more size now then I ever did when I powerlifting. Hypertrophy styled training is best for adding the size he desires.

I agree with movements like the bench, squat, and deadlift are beneficial to adding mass, but I disagree with using those programs. I'm pretty sure all those movements are in the HCT-12 program.
I thought Bane was gonna show up when the power went out at the Super Bowl.

i did SS for a little while at home until i realised my weights and equipment wernt going to be up to scratch when i progressed.
i then pussied out of going to the gym and here i am.
I used to box also so couldnt keep weight on as i had quite a strict diet. as i am a light short bloke i needed to keep weight off to keep my speed.
ive not stopped boxing and just want to be a beast. Bane has inspired me again! lol long live the batman movies.
i will look into the HCT12. Would really appreciate some dieting tips to.
Thank you all.

my diet SUCKS at the moment:
Morning breakfast:
porridge or toast (rarely with an egg though)
lunch:
Sandwich (usually ham with some salad)
cold custurd
or a ready made microwave meal
dinner:
usually meat of some sort thats been seasoned or marinaded
pasta
veg (peas broccli et al)
other points:
i try not to drink too much fizzy drink
thursday i usually have a take away (in terms of working out i guess this would be my "cheat day" where i have one bad meal).
i know i need to bang in the carbs a bit more so i want to try having something like a jacket potato with tuna for lunch. I'm thinking peanut butter on toast for breakfast too. with a shake?
i need more (cheap) ideas!
Also, i've heard about this 5x5 routine thing. whats that like? its all basic compound movements.
Thanks alll,

If you want to bulk up, get big and strong and 'Bane-like' then you need to practically double what you're eating.
And not worry about exactly what it consists of, too!
Bacon and eggs.
Asda smartprice noodles (10p a pack... two of these in a bowl is 800kcals and doused in soy sauce they taste epic. Cheap, cheap calories).
A whole can of corned beef fried in a pan with onions and mixed veg.
Wash every meal down with a pint of whole milk.
These are examples of things you can eat to bulk up on the cheap - it doesn't all have to be steak and chicken breast!
Building big muscle is hard work and takes some serious eating. With it, you will gain a little bit of fat, but no-one's going to notice unless you have your top off all the time! And with your top on, you won't look like you have any fat, you'll just look hench.
And the key point to remember is, fat burns off SO quick once you've built the muscle beneath it.
Gorge yourself for a year whilst blasting HCT-12 and you'll gain one, maybe two stone. Then at the end of that year, spend three or four weeks dietting off maybe 7lbs of excess fat and you'll look like a beast compared to what you are now!

As he gains muscle mass, his bodyfat percentage should naturally decrease. The one thing people seem to be missing is bane or tom hardy as it were has always been in relatively good shape. He pulled bronson off superbly. Dudes got some traps but I dont think he really is that big, I think of big in the terms of derek poundstone, mike ruggiera back in the day, you know, 300lbs+ men etc. I'm going off topic anyway.
The bottom line is you are 147lbs. If you want to look like bane you need a serious base of muscle mass first, If you can get to 200lbs you are well on your way. Bulk first and build your foundation of muscle mass before even thinking about cutting and there are many many ways of going about that (im not getting into the clean bulk/dirty bulk debate.) I dont think it really matters at your point in training how you go about it, just make sure you are performing plenty of the compound movements, ie Squat, Deadlift, Bench Press, Overhead press, chins, dips, barbell rows, stiff leg deadlifts, barbell curls and the like and eating a surplus of calories. Hell, you could probably milk linear progression all the way to 200+.
