Hey everyone, so for the past 3 weeks I've been using Floor Presses as my Max Effort bench lift, and have gotten up to a heavy single with 285. Last week, I also decided to see where I was at on CGBP and got 290 for a heavy single
However, today I did board presses as my ME lift. I made my own board and it was 2.8 inches thick, so basically a 2 board press, and I was only able to get 315.
This was my first time ever board pressing, my question is if it's normal for my 2 board press to be this weak compared to my other lifts?
Thanks
Hard to say without video.
However sometimes it can be setup, or it can be an indication of tricep weakness. It just depends.
Don't get too hung up on board PRs and trying to relate them to anything else but board PRs and trying to beat them the next time.

How much were you expecting to lift?
6'2 - 105kg (231lb) - 14%bf
B: 137.5kg (303lb)
S: 172.5kg (380lb)
D: 227.5kg (502lb)
Thank you for taking the time to share your insight, I appreciate it.
I didn't know what to expect since I had never done board presses, but after looking around at what others board press, mine seemed weak compared to my full rom close grip bench (I havent tested regular bench in a while)
I too can relate to a weaker than normal board press. I max out at 350-360 and my 2-3 board press would be that. As stated, probably tricep or set-up weakness. Seems like I do better in full ROM, stronger off the bottom than top.
Just keep a record of where you are now with it and try to beat it the next time.

Here's a vid of my board presses yesterday, tell me what you guys think.
The vid is a bit long, sorry about that, and on the 315 lift the person filming thought I would get stuck under the weight so they were about to move in to help me and as a result you can't see part of the lift, sorry about that.

Boards are just a tool. Dont look for correlations. Just test your bench every so often to gage true progress. My board work was crazy back in th day. It helped my shirt bench but didnt translate to my raw bench.

Thanks for the input, I guess I just have weak triceps.
For every upper body lift, whether it be with DBs or BB, I always get stuck at the mid point.
For instance, I was doing seated DB Presses and on my last rep, I had no trouble pushing the DBs through the bottom part of the lift, from shoulder level up to around the top of my head, but then all of a sudden it seemed as though the DBs just hit an invisible wall and I wasn't able to complete the rep
Boards are really helpful for shirted benching but for raw benching personally full range close grips helped me more. Ive always had a great 2 board compared to my full range.
