    Can't fall asleep! Need Help!

I can't fall asleep at night as well since I started lifting about 6 weeks ago. It usually takes me 2-3 hours of tossing and turning before I can fall asleep, even if I only got 4 hours the night before. I've had trouble sleeping all my life but lifting has seemed to aggrevate the condition. Any suggestions? Some kind of sleeping pill or relaxation techniques? Anything, I'm desperate here.

On average I leave the gym at 7 and go to bed around 2. I'd say anywhere from 4-7 hours. I think I see what you're getting at, that I get my 'second wind' by going to the gym so late in the day?

It can effect some people like that. I know since I switched to training in the afternoon I have no problems with sleep.

Do you force yourself to stay up so late or is it no problem ?

I go to bed around 2am, fall asleep around 4 and automatically wakeup around 9. I'm rarely tired at 2, and even if I am I can't fall asleep right away. It seems like no matter how tired I am, I still must put in my 2 hours of tossing and turning before falling asleep. What often happens is I'll go to bed tired or groggy(from only getting 4 hours sleep the night before), thinking i can fall asleep, but after a half hour/ 45 minutes, I'm wide awake, so I get up and have a bowl of cereal or something, watch TV, anything to get my mind because now I'm freaking myself out over the fact that I cant fall asleep.

First I'd say to at least get in bed earlier like around 12:30-1 am.

you may want to try supplementing with kava kava or melatonin or even ZMA to help with your sleep.

You taking anything? Xenadrine had that effect on me so I stopped talking the second session (took it only in the morning), that fixed the problem.

Also are you stressing out? Is everything in your life ok (job, wife/girlfriend, health, etc).. when I went through **** i couldn't sleep at all..

    just my 2 cents

Yea, it could be your training to late, could be the ECA's, could be too much stress in your life, you could have some wicked flourecent lighting in your house at night (not good), etc...

Here's some supplements that may help: 5-HTP can be had at any health food store, pre-cursor to tryptophan. You can double or triple the dose on the bottle. St. Johns Wort, Kava-Kava, also works for some. You can go up to 5mg /day on Melatonin and still be okay, although dreams do get pretty weird sometimes. Also ZMA helps some people sleep better.

You can also use OTC sleeping pills, but I'd recommend those be a very last result. They're highly addictive and can really throw off your natural cycles.

If it's a short-term problem, try Tylenol PM.

what i did is i went to kazaa and downloaded nature sounds, like waterfalls, and rain, and even beach noises, then i made a CD of that. and i put it on when i lay in bed at night, it really helps me out a lot, very relaxing.
