I use an overhand grip on bothe my deadlifts and my sldl's.......Should I be using a mixed grip when doing my sldl's?
I used a mixed grip for both traditional and sldl. I have my left palm facing away from me, and my right palm facing to me.
I was under the assumption that the majority use a mixed grip for deads.

Personally I do a mixed grip of both....I couldn't hold onto the bar any other way. Also, from what I've read, it seems to be common that people use a mixed grip on all their deadlift movements.
copy cat!
We must of been posting at the same time lol

Hulk, just read your post, and I was wondering why you only use a certian mixed grip? For a while, I was just doing right palm facing away and left palm facing toward my body, then I tried to reverse it and my grip was much weaker. Maybe reversing the mixed grip every so often would improve overall grip strength?
maybe. Its just something I have always done, and never tried any other way. I have seen people in my gym do it the other way. I was under the impression right palm inwards was the popular way to do it.
Perhaps someone else can answer if it would increase grip strength by changing it up. Maybe I might try it.

I did overhand for one set today just to check it out..nothing special. I can still move a hell of a lot more weight mixed. If it's not prohibiting you from using more weight, then go with overhand, but I doubt that's the case.

Hulk, I think that grip setup is popular cause most people are right handed, so they favor having their right palm facing inward. (just a speculation of mine)
I'm left handed (using left palm facing me, right palm away)...just out of curiosity, hulk are you right handed?
I hope I didn't go too far off topic, sorry![]()

but do you switch your inner/outer facing hands from time to time?
you should use over hand grip till your grip fails as this will build more strength, but whne your grip does fail switch to the mixed grip to continue your training. ALso, alternating whjich hand faces in etc will develop a more even grip, not that i do this though. lol
