    Weak wrist affecting benching?

My left wrist is awfully weak and small compared to my forearms, and whenever I'm benching heavy, my wrist will tremble throughout and wayyy before my chest/triceps reach failure, my wrist is trembling so bad that I have to stop the exercise in fear of dropping the weight.

So my question is, is there any specifically good exercises that can target the wrist more than the forearms? How many times should I train them?

    power cleans?

get a captain of crush from www.ironmind.com (more grip related actually)..

i really don't see how a weak wrist could affect your benching, because there is pretty much 0 wrist strength needed as the weight is basically leaning on you (not requiring you to hold it)..

    your wrist is trembling?
Strange. That's a joint, no major muscle there.
You sure you don't mean your arm is trembling?
This would be a tricep problem if this is the case.

How are you holding the bar? It seems as if you're holding it as if you were twisting the throttle on a motorcycle handlebar. You need to keep the bar inline with your entire arm, or you risk losing the bar. If you DO lose it, life will suck a lot very quickly.

Also, if you keep having this wrist pain/shivering...I would look into getting an X-Ray. Like the bros above said...it just simply should NOT be happening under normal circumstances.

    Good luck

A friend of mine accidentally stuck his hand in a fast fryer at work one night and is just starting to lift again. He says its affecting his bench, but I don't know why. It messed up his skin, but didn't do anything to the muscle. And it was a while ago that it happened, so he should be recovered. Any ideas??

start at a lower weight, let the wrist get acclamated to the weight. I have the same thing, but it's both wrists..I have to take it slow

    Wooster...a FAST FRYER?!?! Damn...

It might have created some nerve damage, as well as some damage to the underlying tissues like ligaments amd tendons. If that's the case, he should probably take it real slow until he gains the muscle strength in the wrist to be able to support what he's benching.

    Maybe it's a mental thing?

Suggestion: Go light, go slow, and those gloves that wrap around the wrist might be a good thing for him to feel more secure.

I thought I was the only one; my wrist is also very weak. Whenever I bench, the most strain I feel, is not in my chest, but in my wrist. And the wrist actually makes cracking noises.

When I did the tricep pull downs, with every rep I pulled, my wrist cracked. I am not sure how to fix this wrist problem? Is there a way to make them stronger?

Wrist wraps can help on the bench. However, I think you should look at how you're holding the bar first. Equipment can help if you've got a problem, but it won't make up for incorrect technique.

try putting thumbs over the bar instead of under it when pressing -- should make a big difference
