What some people in the public think is a sculpted/fit/ideal body... a good laugh:

So anyways, for my english class, we've been using this book called Seeing and Writing and it's basically about the notions of how our society sees images and what now. There is a section in the book called "Defining the Body" and in it, there's a subsection titled "Building the Male Body." So anyways, we had to do group presentations on any of the chapters and in my group, I was asked to do "Building the Male Body." I first showed my sample survey that I did on here a few days ago about why people worked out. Then I talked about studies done about action figures and how they have gotten bigger over the yeras and provided visuals from the studies. As well, I covered how there was a study done about playgirl centre folds and how they have gotten bigger over the years and a study done on what women find attractive. I spoke about how a man wants an 'ideal' body because of the biological aspect as well and then showed visuals of past and present ads on getting big.

So here is the funny part: after we were done our presentation, these asshole 'keeners' tried to ask me tough questions which I think I answered pretty well. So this asshole asks me: "So ummm why do you think that rock stars have gotten bigger and in good shape nowadays? Is it because of their rough touring schedual?"

I replied: "The majority of rockstars would not be what is considered an 'ideal' body. They are very thin. Look at Tommy Lee, members of Greenday, rhcp etc. They don't have 'perfect bodies"

Then my prof says: "Well surely rockstars have bodies that are not attainable by most people. They have very sculpted bodies"

I was just thinking...oh my god... what a bunch of retards. I mean, I don't think that you have to look like Kevin Levrone to have what is considered an ideal/sculpted body. Most Calvin Kline models could be considered to have an ideal body that most people want. But Tommy Lee? Greenday? My god!

I think their idea of sculpted can only be what they know. If people only see Brad Pitt from Fight Club then they think that's big and ripped. If they don't know about Levrone then they can't do a comparison. Music stands out to most so that's what they know.

The thing is though, Brad Pitt in fight club was extremely cut and had a good level of muscularity compared to the general public... but Tommy Lee???

Tommy Lee's awesome dude. He's so huge and buff. How else could he have gotten Pamela Anderson?

    *snaps back to reality*

I think most of the general public is a bit deranged. Sculpted to most people is having a BF% lower than 20%. Its just weird for them to see somebody without a big gut and flabby arms. It doesn't matter if its anorexic looking or muscular looking. A low bf% is sculpted for the average person.

Members of the chilli peppers have good shape. Not everyone likes, nor wants to be a bodybuilder. I admire the Dorian Yates look ....... 98% of the general public .... don't.

Also .... Tommy Lee has a large tail. So Im told. lol

Ya, that's why I felt like snapping when the majority of the class was getting on my case saying "What are you talking about? Rockstars are sculpted!"

Some rock stars are but they ain't mainstream. Type O Negative, Henry Rollins, Danzig, some of those guys are actually pretty big and not just big like Blues Traveller guy big. But then again the people that think mainstream rockers are sculpted also think that just lifting weights will make them get "too big". "I want to get sculpted but I don't want to get too big" WTF!!!

I'll never understand. I'm just here.

Just before having sizzling sex with Pam, a friend warned me that Tommy's nickname was T-bone ... because of his manhood. I assured my friend my nickname was "The human Tri-pod".

What was probably meant by this was that "rockstars are thin" (as in not overweight)... A lot of people think that thin=in good shape, but then "in shape" is a rather subjective term and WILL be interpreted in a variety of ways.

Reminds me (sadly) of someone I know who got very, very thin due to cancer treatment. She was constantly barraged by women who, obviously not knowing what was really going on with her, would say things like "OMG....you're in such good shape, I hate you. You've lost so much weight and you look so good! What's your secret, b/c whatever diet you're on, I want it!" Chilling...

I think Acc and I know about this. And I'm sure everyone out there strives to improve their body image... the question is, why? That's my only concern when I think about people changing their body... why are you changing it? Is it a good/legitimate reason?

I agree though, most people's ideas of a fit body, is just a thin body and not neccessarily a healthy body. I look at my g/f and any other girl the same size as her and it kills me to know that the other girls think they are in great shape because they look relatively the same. But the good thing is, both her and I know she's healthier. And that's the bottom line!

There's a lot of misconceptions on what people think is the fit body. A lot of people put nothing but emphasis on what you weigh and that's it. I mean, if you heard Dorian Yates weight or the weight of a bodybuilder, and knew nothing about him other then that, the initial reaction is to say "****, he must be a fatass at that weight.". The opposite is true with girls. "oh, she only weights that much? man, she must be beautiful". It's disgusting.

Take me and the only other guy that works out in my class. I'm only 180, and I've got a half decently low bodyfat (nothing drastic, but whatever) compared to his 240 pounds of beef. Most people think I'm in better shape. Not a chance. He cuts down to my bodyfat, he'd still have a lot of weight on him and look damn mean/big. But because he's bigger then me, less definition, people think he must be in worse shape. No understanding of how bodyfat % even work.

Or when I was cutting. I got smaller, yet everyone thought I must be "getting bigger/building muscle" because I was getting more definition. Stupidity.

People put low weight or definition into "muscular". I saw one guy at the train about a year ago, shirt open to show off his six. The guy might have weighed 120 soaking wet. His arms were single digit size, bones for shoulders, yet he probably got respect for that. "Ooh, he's so cut." Sickening. And that's my rant.
