My sister is a true believer in upper class, formalities and systemetically being better than "the people"

she will judge individuals on their language, classy dress, education, income, and all of the above regarding their parents and family besides the normal things...

(yes, shes in a sorority, before you ask)

I`m like, more down to earth... i try and judge people just by how intelligent they are and what they undertake in their life....

now she says im just blind and she even seems sorry her brother is not like her and her friends. she thinks I only think this way because i live in what is by her ways to be judged as the underside of holland and im in a bad environment.

now im sceptical of that, because i know she has some insecurities and she may be compensating them in this way.

my dad is on her side he is more like her. both are very intelligent... im not sure what to think

i say who gives a sh*t. in the long run, you will live a more fulfilling, and far more interesting life, if you measure people solely on their intellect, then trying to fit everyone into a box based on your own prejudices.

that's just been my experience tho. everyone, whether they be a bum or a millionaire, a junkie or a nun, mentally handicapped or a member of mensa can teach you something. but to quote a certain religious text, let those that have eyes see. not everyone has eyes, so appreciate the treasure you have in an open mind.

If you judge people by their intellect I ain't so sure you are doing right yourself. Judge people by their character, who cares if you can't hold a conversation with them, considering they are true friend and have a good heart.

Also, no one can judge people only by their inner-side. I know for example that I have only one female friend which isn't good looking. :O

Peoples identity's ought to be judged in more intabgible methods, rather than the tangible clothes, status etc...

i don't think i really have the word for what it is i mean...character doesn't quite fit either.....i guess by intellect i mean, intelligence, whether that be, mental, social, emotional, whatever. I know some mentally handicapped kids who have very high emotional iqs. you know what i mean?

Black Curtain, you said what I was just about to say. To judge people only on intellect is to be intellectually elitist. I think the best thing to do is not to judge at all. I choose the company I keep based on strength of character, because each individual has his/her strengths and weaknesses.

I find that rather retarded. I have a lot of guy friends that aren't the hottest people on earth, but they're great people. Why is it that the majority of guys only bother to befriend the ass and not the person?

Class stature has a lot more to do with life than people give it credit for.

Those of high class, all other things being equal, will have better education, better jobs, stronger relationships and have a higher chance of being 'good' and clean people with low risk lives. Your sister may just want to surround herself with this type of people (good) which is perfectly acceptable.

I suspect that she is not skilled enough to sort out the good from the bad in people and by surrounding herself with those of a high social stature, she is more likely to avoid bad people. If you are able to recognize good in people quickly and discard those that are not good, then you can easily and safely surround yourself with good people regardless of their social status.

Guess what I'm saying is don't knock your sister for going with the odds. Yes there are a few 'high class' people who are scum and numerous 'low class' people who are very good people, but if you can't figure out who's good and who's not you are safer to surround yourself with those of a higher social status. It's reality.

Of course, if she's just doing it to be seen as 'better' than others, she's someone that I would avoid. Unless I was her brother, of course.

She sounds like a product (Garbage) modern society. You might want to bring up how such mentailities are created (sociology) and internalized by the "masses" (your sister). Then ask her how can a truely "inteligent" person allow themselves to be brainwashed! Oh and lastly ask her what has she personally done to earned this "better" status.

Lastly there is some truth to the measure she uses. With greater income/inteligence/what ever there tends to be a greater chance of that person having more personal fortitude. But as with all systems of measurement they are imperfect and in this case a very indirect method of measurement. So if this is all or most of what she uses to base her opinion on others, it is very narrow minded(now she can't be that can she?).
