I used to be a strong believer in them, but my faith is waning.

Great if done a certain way. When I do them like 99.9% of others do them, I don't like them much, though. A few months back, I posted a detailed description of the form I use to target side delts and de-emphasize traps. IMO, use shrugs for traps, not upright rows too.

I have never been big on them. I feel the arms limit the movement too much. I do, however, know people who like them very much and include them in their routine and have huge shoulders and traps.

Well, yes there's that Belial, but also because my traps are already large.

I've always liked vert. rows. Although lately they haven't felt like they've been doin much. I may eliminate them because I do shrugs on shoulder day because traps are worked by vert. rows. Then I get screwed on back day cuz traps get worked pretty good with deads.

Anyone have a good replacement? I currently use military press, lateral raises, and rear delt cable pulls. Shoulders are my worst muscle to work...never feel a good pump etc...mebbe I should throw shoulders in with chest and tris, and switch from db press to bb press to target em more. Any thoughts I'd appreciate it. Shoulders are crap since I dislocated my shoulder and broke my collarbone on a hit from behind into the boards from hockey.

I dislike upright rows. They pinch my rotator cuff.

I cant do upright rows, bentover rows, or reverse curls due to the fact that whenever I do them, it sends a sharp pain through my forearms.

On military press is it really that bad to go behind the neck with a bb? I remember when I was a young gym punk I used to get good results from this but now using the machine I don't. DBs are hard to get into position if using high weight...I used to go behind the neck till the bar touches the top of my traps then up again...

I love upright rows.. but I can only do them with an EZ bar (wrists). They're excellent mass builders for your traps and delts.

Upright rows bother my wrists and my rotators.

That being said, when I did do them, they used to give me a great pump in my whole shoulder/trap region. I do not include them anymore.

I like upright rows but mainly because of the weight I can use by the third workout I had them in I was doing my last 2 sets at 210 for eight reps, plus they really jump started my trap growth which I desperately need.
