    Love Handles...

What is the best way to get rid of love handles without adding muscle size to the obliques? I wanna try have have that V cut look all the way down to the hips, not just down the to waist area.

I am dieting to add muscle mass with supplements. I am doing crunches, but it's just not getting those love handles. Is it safe to do a angled crunch to try to get those love handles without adding so much muscle mass to the obliques?

I've knocked about 9/34 inches off my waist, but still have huge love handles, it sux...

    Thanks in advance,

    -Redkaven

OK before any one jumps down your neck. Let me tell you that you can not spot reduce fat. Meaning you cant work on just one are of your body and exspect it to get trim. fat loss will happen but thew out your whole body. Just keep working hard diet and cardio and you will get there eventually. Oh and the last places to go are the love handles and the chest area so hang in there. Use the search option hear. All your questions have all ready been asked. Welcome

work on bulking, and accept the excess fat, and then worry about getting lean. dont try to get big muscles and lose fat, youll just frustrate yourself.

How is it I lost inches from the waist area more than anywhere else? Meaning it appears that I have lost more fat from the waist area than anywhere else...

I'm not saying you guys are wrong, but are you saying I can get a 6 pack just from cardio?

I've been doing heavy weight training and crunches, but no cardio. I have acute asthma. I was upposed to get checked for a lung disease, but haven't had it done yet...

Also, I have been putting on as much weight as I could. Now I'm slimming down for spring/summer.

    Sex: male, Age: 25, Hieght: 5'7, Weight: 182, Chest: 43, Arms: 16, Waist: 41(including gut), Thighs: 23, Calves:15.

I look pretty trim everywhere except my gut. It's huge and it looks unnatural. As if I had a tumor or something. I'm also alot stronger than I look.

first of all, no matter how lean you are, you wont have a 6 pack unless you train your abs right. which sounds like youre doing fine. 2nd, you dont need to do cardio to burn fat, you need a clean diet along with your training program.

damn, and I would kill to just have love handles, lol. Sounds bad, but I would, and I'm making progress at cutting fat, but i wouldn't care if I had love handles, but then again I'm 275 (with plenty of fat to go around) and I am just trying to get rid of the tits and some of the stomach (i know you can't spot reduce and all, but if I jsut got rid of those I would be happy for this summer). Cardio and lifting, do them both, and they will leave.
Second place is just a generic term your mom created to make you not feel bad about losing, because second place is actually first loser!

To answer your question as to why you seemed to have lost weight in your belly while putting on muscle.. You were new to lifting at the time then, right? During newbie gains, you are actually able to do just that. Gain muscle and lose fat. It's because the body is so shocked that you've decided to do something that it completely ignores the laws of pyschics.

And no, you don't need to do cardio to get the six pack. First time I brought mine out, I never took a step I didn't have to. I just controlled what I ate completely, and continued to work out so I didn't loose muscle with the fat.

So, to answer your question, you can't spot reduce and love handles might be the last place your body holds on to fat (it is mine), nor can you work obliques and gain muscle there that will eat the fat. While muscle does up your metabolism and help you get rid of the fat, it won't do it in one place. It'll work all over the body.. So, continue working out (same way you did while gaining muscle) and change your diet up. If you aren't able to cardio, factor that in to the diet.. And if you've never done a cut before, I suggest you skim over the articles in the diet part of this forum and it's home page.
