I just got this e-mail. I cut alot out cause it is extremely long but you get the point. If you want to see the rest let me know.
I agree with alot of this. I've always said you got to have some respect for the people above, you cause they got to that posisition. Think your boss is an idiot, well since he is your boss, what does that make you? Also people complaining about Bush, I don't see you doing much with your life.
Also Jessica Lange can F*** herslef if that is true. While I may not agree with everything the US does I have never been embarassed to be an American.
Who's Smarter?
The Hollywood group is at it again. Holding anti-war rallies, screaming
about the Bush Administration, running ads in
major newspapers, defaming the President and his Cabinet every chance
they get, to anyone and everyone who will
listen. They publicly defile them and call them names like "stupid",
"morons", and "idiots". Jessica Lange went so far
as to tell a crowd in Spain that she hates President Bush and is
embarrassed to be an American.
So, just how ignorant are these people who are running the country?
Let's look at the biographies of these "stupid",
"ignorant", "moronic" leaders, and then at the celebrities who are
castigating them:
President George W. Bush: Received a Bachelors Degree from Yale
University and an MBA from Harvard Business
School. He served as an F-102 pilot for the Texas Air National Guard. He
began his career in the oil and gas business in
Midland in 1975 and worked in the energy industry until 1986. He was
elected Governor on November 8, 1994, with 53.5
percent of the vote. In a historic re-election victory, he became the
first Texas Governor to be elected to consecutive
four-year terms on November 3, 1998 winning 68.6 percent of the vote. In
1998 Governor Bush won 49 percent of the
Hispanic vote, 27 percent of the African-American vote, 27 percent of
Democrats and 65 percent of women. He won
more Texas counties, 240 of 254, than any modern Republican other than
Richard Nixon in 1972 and is the first
Republican gubernatorial candidate to win the heavily Hispanic and
Democratic border counties of El Paso, Cameron
and Hidalgo. (Someone began circulating a false story about his I.Q.
being lower than any other President. If you
believed it, you might want to go to URBANLEGENDS.COM and see the
truth.)
Edit: same thing for every other politician
So who are these celebrities? What is their education? What is their
experience in affairs of State or in National
Security? While I will defend to the death their right to express
their opinions, I think that if they are going to call into
question the intelligence of our leaders, we should also have all the
facts on their educations and background:
Barbra Streisand : Completed high school Career: Singing and
acting
Cher: Dropped out of school in 9th grade. Career: Singing and
acting
Martin Sheen: Flunked exam to enter University of Dayton. Career:
Acting
Jessica Lange: Dropped out college mid-freshman year. Career:
Acting
Alec Baldwin: Dropped out of George Washington U. after scandal.
Career: Acting
Julia Roberts: Completed high school. Career: Acting
Sean Penn: Completed High school. Career: Acting
Susan Sarandon: Degree in Drama from Catholic University of America in
Washington, D.C. Career: Acting
Ed Asner; Completed High school. Career: Acting
George Clooney: Dropped out of University of Kentucky. Career:
Acting
Michael Moore: Dropped out first year University of Michigan.
Career: Movie Director
Sarah Jessica Parker: Completed High School. Career: Acting
Jennifer Anniston: Completed High School. Career: Acting
Mike Farrell: Completed High school. Career: Acting
Janeane Garofelo: Dropped out of College. Career: Stand up
comedienne
Larry Hagman: Attended Bard College for one year. Career: Acting
While comparing the education and experience of these two groups, we
should also remember that President Bush and
his cabinet are briefed daily, even hourly, on the War on Terror and
threats to our security. They are privy to
information gathered around the world concerning the Middle East, the
threats to America, the intentions of terrorists
and terrorist-supporting governments. They are in constant communication
with the CIA, the FBI, Interpol, NATO, The
United Nations, our own military, and that of our allies around the
world. We cannot simply believe that we have full
knowledge of the threats because we watch CNN!! We cannot believe that
we are in any way as informed as our
leaders.
The ultimate irony is that many of these celebrities have made a
shambles of their own lives, with drug abuse,
alcoholism, numerous marriages and divorces, scrapes with the law,
publicized temper tantrums, etc. How dare they
pretend to know what is best for an entire nation! What is even more
bizarre is how many people in this country will
listen and accept their views, simply because they liked them in a
certain movie, or have fond memories of an old
television sitcom!
nice post
I would note that education does not necessarily bestow intelligence, merely knowledge
but many in Hollywood lack both intelligence and knowledge
I agree a degree doesn't prove intelligence, but you got to give respect for accomplishment. The more actors then Presidents. Though I do give actors credit for having the drive to get to where there at. I honestly beleive, what seperates people is how bad do you want it?
well
I am sure that his family connections didn't HURT Dubya's career and accomplishments.
but yeah
My suspicion is that there are a lot more brains behind the 'Good old boy' facade than most give him credit for.
isn't that the truth..Originally posted by Callahan

Celebs make more money, and do less work. Education is to prepare you for life ahead. I'm sure they all went to theatre school, and acting/voice classes. An MBA would be completely worthless to them, so it's a pretty stupid comparison if you ask me.
Perhaps whoever wrote the article requires further education, to teach them what success, intelligence and fulfillment are all about. Not sure of the point either, other than to write something that wastes our time reading. Must be a tabloid journalist.

You'd be wrong about most actors going to theatre school.Originally posted by ElPietro

Acting/voice classes is another matter but I agree with you that acting classes don't compare with an MBA. You're exactly right.
However, the point wasn't to compare but to contrast actors and Bush. Yes, an MBA won't help you act, but it would tend to help you approach business and political issues with a more informed opinion.
I think the whole point of the article was that most of these actors speaking out against the war were simply talking out of their asses, for they lack the education, the background and the information they need to make accurate and relevant judgements about what's going on. Sadly, due to the media culture and the importance of entertainment in American culture, these actors have an influence and a voice that far outweighs their competence.
How does actiing make you qualified to make world decisions? Unless of course you played a president on tv.
I posted this article to not only talk about celeberties but everyone who knows more.

Ah, this is also true for many people on this site. But we still get 10 or more new threads everyday on pointless misinformed BS. Ignorance is everywhere, so I'll just leave it at that.Originally posted by Callahan

I don't know if all the facts on that post were true, but I bet there close. So how is that misinformed? How does being an actor, must of which never graduated college, make you able to dictate world views?
You are correct an MBA wouldn't help an actor, nor would acting classes help the president. Spare the jokes.
To just say this is tabloid journalism is off the mark.
I was thinking good point. But then did a search. I got to admit I was thinking of you while starting this thread. All the talking head stuff.Originally posted by Tryska

Also alot of these actor if they weren't famous would be considered losers. Drug abuse, scandals, jail, ect..
I am saying that an actor can be as informed as anyone else. Your degree isn't the extent of your knowledge. Many of them may have access to higher level politicians for discussion, or could be educating themselves on the side, as I'm sure they have ample time between movies. They have the advantage of media exposure to voice their opinions, that comes with their job, most people don't complain when the speak of other things, so they are definitely entitled to whatever they think.
It seems almost every article posted is so poorly written, or basically is designed to lead you to a false, or poorly backed conclusion. Whatever happened to that ship they found, that was a big chemical weapons plant? I don't remember but I'm sure it proved false. Now the US attacks a group that is "loosely" affiliated with Al Queda. How loose? 2 degrees of seperation, 4? 6? Then they find a factory, and say that it MAY be linked to production of weapons of mass destruction. It MAY not also, but you won't hear that view, and if it turns out to be a red herring, you will never hear about it again, because the next theory that people are being spoonfed will hit the headlines.
It's gotten to the point that I don't believe anything I see in the media anymore. I realize that if I limit my opinion to "just the facts" there really is very little for me to make an informed decision on. Just like Iraq is probably seeing a lot of BS propoganda, I realize that the same thing will be happening in the western world.
But it all comes down to the fact that people can say what they want, and ignorance is everywhere, so pointing out one group seems a bit of a moot point to me.

Where does the dubya come from? I must live in cave cause I never heard it before.
Oh, and just to add, having an MBA doesn't make you informed in any way shape or form. You have to take an initiative to be up on your current events. Past education really won't do that for you. And I don't believe it gives you much of an advantage in interpreting these events.
I found the highest concentration of stupidity at University, however, I did go to York, so that may be the reason.![]()

Yeah, I'd agree with this, but it happens for everything though, so to expect it not to apply on big political issues is a bit of a stretch. They get press if they go puke in a bathroom, get caught with a gerbil in their ass, or go on a diet, people for some reason are intrigued with celebrity lives, so of course they are also going to want to know their thoughts on whatever is happening in the world, no matter how ignorant it be.Originally posted by Belial

Believe me, shows like entertainment tonight kinda sicken me, people that need to live vicariously through celebrity lives since they have none of their own is kinda sad.
I'd rather they be forced to stfu at all times other than when filming too. But they get the good and the bad press regardless.

Basically a degree proves you have the ability to learn. Also proves you must have some reasonable intelligence.
Most of what I do I learned after college. But I couldn't do it without the principles I learned in college.
For me it comes down to the president got to where he is at, he most have some smarts. He is making decisios that effect the world and we are sitting on our buts critueing them on an internet forum.
