Why not, it's a breast isn't it? I imagine any male, gyno or not, would have some sort of nipple discharge if given prolactin. That's one of the signs of a pituitary adenoma. That and double-vision or other vision changes.

I think his question was actual milk discharge, in which case he'd have to have mammary glands. Males typically don't have them, do they?

Yes. Gyno is enlargement of the male mammary gland. For whatever the cause is, when the testosterone:estrogen ratio gets out of whack the male's mammary gland enlarges to form gyno. Normally men don't have the enlargement or secretions because the test is much higher than the estrogen.

Think about the males who take estrogen to make their boobs develop, sometimes prior to a sex reassignment surgery. I saw a show on the Moulin Rouge one time that was hosted by Omar Sharif on the Playboy Channel. They showed some topless dancers with some pretty incredible bodies- knock-out breasts and all. He said, Remember these are all men. Those dancers were famous for getting the men in the bar to buy expensive drinks for them. They'd talk them men into leaving the bar with them, and then they'd roll them for their money. But, I digress. Point is, a man's breasts will grow if enough estrogen is present relative to the amount of testosterone. A man's breasts are just as capable of secretions as a woman's.

Firtst off how did you think of this? Second I never would have guessed me even had the equipment. I figured she-males had implants. Didn't know it was hormone therapy. So theres something going for them, they are real. So if a mans hormones are the far out of wack he will grow regular size breasts and functioning too. I am not sure if this interesting or disturbing.

So if this is true why cant women just take some estrogen drug to increase boob size????

I don't know why estrogen doesn't cause enlargement in women. My guess is that it doesn't increase the overall level of estrogen in women very much, since they already produce estrogen. In men, taking estrogen would significantly increase the amount of estrogen present.

I don't know if prolactin can cause breast enlargement in men. Prolactin's main function is to cause epithelial proliferation which leads to production of secretions.

Here's a link that talks about gynecomastia. It doesn't specifically mention prolactin as a cause of gyno, but that doesn't mean that mention of it can't be found somewhere else on the net:

i think women cant just take est and get bigger boobs because you have to gain weight and have a high est level i think.

things usually just dont grow on their own, other than tumors

I think women won't get big boobs from taking extra estrogen is because it has to do with ratios. It's not just estrogen, it's estrogen vs. testosterone. Giving a woman extra estrogen won't effect their est/test ratio much because it is already so large. Giving them even a small amount of test can have DRASTIC results, though.

My guess is that it wont cause breast enlargement in women because they are already awash with estrogen, and women with enormous bajigglies dont necessarily have a higher estrogen/test ratio than women who are flat chested. Its probably largely genetic like everything else.

Actually, most birth control pills do have the effect of making your "bajigglies" bigger. I don't know if it's the additional estrogen (or progesterone, or estradiol...) or what, but it happens.
