Hi again everybody,
Quick question for all the contributors out there, I have been told that along with ingesting a Whey Protein shake after every workout to add some Dextrose to it as well. I went out and bought a small bag of Dextrose from a Health Food Store and wanted to know how much I should be adding to my protein shakes after every workout or if I should consume the Dextrose separately. I'm 6', 165 lbs and I am mostly concentrating on upper body workouts with 80-100 km of cycling every week. Also, I know the protein shakes aid in the rebuilding of muscle after workouts but I forgot what the dextrose does for the body too.

Mix them together. I usually have a scoop of each prior and after my lifting session.
"It is often said, mainly by the "no-contests", that although there is no positive evidence for the existence of God, nor is there evidence against his existence. So it is best to keep an open mind and be agnostic. At first sight that seems an unassailable position, at least in the weak sense of Pascal's wager. But on second thought it seems a cop-out, because the same could be said of Father Christmas and tooth fairies. There may be fairies at the bottom of the garden. There is no evidence for it, but you can't prove that there aren't any, so shouldn't we be agnostic with respect to fairies?"

"Out of all of the sects in the world, we notice an uncanny coincidence: the overwhelming majority just happen to choose the one that their parents belong to. Not the sect that has the best evidence in its favour, the best miracles, the best moral code, the best cathedral, the best stained glass, the best music: when it comes to choosing from the smorgasbord of available religions, their potential virtues seem to count for nothing, compared to the matter of heredity. This is an unmistakable fact; nobody could seriously deny it. Yet people with full knowledge of the arbitrary nature of this heredity, somehow manage to go on believing in their religion, often with such fanaticism that they are prepared to murder people who follow a different one."

Ya, it's important to take in some simple carbs post-workout.
You kill me in a dream, you better wake up and apologize....
There's about 30g of dextrose per 1/4 cup. I'd say go with 1/2 cup (60g) after a fairly light workout and maybe up it to 3/4 cup (90g) after an intense session (like legs).
If consuming more than 50g you might want to go with half dextrose and half maltodextrin. The dextrose will be absorbed rapidly and the malto will have to he broken down so it would provide a one two punch so to speak.Originally posted by Vido

The general rule I believe is .6-1g per kg of bodyweight so I would say 75g at the most.
I usually don't go over 60 grams of dextrose, and I don't even take that all at once, 30 before, 30g after.

The label on the Supplement Direct pail of Dextrose states 1 serving size is 1/3 cup or 75g.....does this sound right?
If a 1/4 cup is 30g, which is what I have been led to believe, then 1/3 cup is 40g, not 75.

ive found that 12.5 teaspoons= 40g, not sure how many teaspoons are in a cup though
