    klistcho vs Lewis

anyone else excited about this fight?

I would like to see the rusky win just to totally dissolve the heavy weight order

Klitscho has a punchers chance but has to overcome a 6 inch reach despite being 2 inches taller. I think lewis will fight his usual style and rack up points agains an awkard fighter

I sure wish this was Vladimir instead of vitali

I am fired up about it...it gives me something to do tonight. From what I hear Klitschko only had 2 weeks to prepare for it...and I have heard that he is currently better than his brother, although his brother was initially thought to be boxing's future.

Klitcho was preparing for the undercard so wind wise should be fine the problem would be getting ready for the champ

I think vlad is a far better athelete and would pose more problems than the awkward vitali that being said i hope he wins and he does have a punchers chance

I don't really care if Vitali wins although it would be nice. Mainly I just want to see Lewis get floored at least once just for showing up in less than optimal shape.

I'm going to get it on VHS and watch it, but don't worry about ruining it for me, someone already told me, I really think they should have just let Klitchsko continue. He was up on all the cards and he was ready willing and able to fight. My friend said Vitali was clearly dominating before being 'knocked' out. So I dunno.

It is not Vitali Klitschko's decision to make wether he can continue or not,If he was allowed to continue last night he could have been permanently hurt, even with his current injuries it will be a long time before he recovers full from those cut's.

I am not a big Lewis fan, infact I think he is a pratt, but he deserved the win.It is irrelevent who was ahead on the scorecards at the time of a TKO.The cut was'nt caused by some accidental headbutt or elbow etc,It was a punch that opened him up,and rendered him unable to continue.Lewis wins by TKO.

You really think he should have been able to continue with these injuries.

lewis almost dropped in the second round, if vitali had the killer instinct he could have won right there. but no, he had to let him recover and then get cut...............................

From what I understand a guy named Corrie Sanders absolutely destroyed Wladimir Klitschko a few months ago...I think he knocked him out 4 times in the second round.

howswer, IMHO, I really think they should have let him continue, those are just cuts, they just look really badly, but I don't think if he continued he would have been seriously hurt, I really think that if Vitali wanted to continue he should have been allowed too.

He's a boxer... as long as he has some kind of coherency he will fight. To disability or even death if need be. That is why he does not make the calls. A doctor does and though he might have been up on the score cards at that point, who knows what would have happened as the cut opened up more.

umm, vitali has already shown he will make good decisions on whether he should fight or not based on his fight with Byrd, in fact most people thought he should continue. I didn't then, but fast forward to today a cut is just a cut, if it opened up more, and started to effect his boxing to the point where it was clear he was losing the ref could just stop the fight and call the TKO. Both fighters, Both corners, and MOST fans wanted the fight to continue. BTW, your pics show my point, the doctor's reasoning was the cut effected his vision, but he can clearly see from that eye if you look at the pics, thats why the doc stopped the fight, u can't just stop a fight because u think someone's cut is icky.

Firstly the top picture is taken after the fight, when his eye had been patched up to some extent and the blood flow stopped.

In the action picture below it is clear that the peripheral vision to his left eye is severely limited,I would hazard a guess from looking at that picture that a Lennox Lewis right hook would not be seen early enought to make any kind of evasive head movement.

In my opinion even if the cuts were not impairing his ability to fight safely(which they were)Where do you draw the line at facial damage on a fighter,It is already estimated that he will need 9 months before the cuts are sufficiently healed to fight again.Do we just let them keep fighting until their eyes are hanging out,and that the damage is so severe that they may never heal well enough to fight again?

I didn't see the fight, but saw many of the replays. A cut as wide as the one Vitali had wouldn't stay closed, so the first jab would start the blood flowing again. In the SHW division, having an eye like that means that inevitably you are going to get hurt. Could he have won the fight? Sure, but in all likelihood, he woulda been caught by a right from Lewis, and been in a whole lot more trouble.

The doctors are their to offer SOME protection to the fighters, and I think in this case it was the right decision. It's easy to want someone to continue when it's a great fight, but being potentially blinded on one side with the firepower of the heavyweight champ coming at you can result in some permanent damage. He'll be able to recover and hopefully have a rematch, but you can't teach someone not to be a bleeder, and in this sport that's a huge factor.

So did they ever determine how exactly he got that cut?

The speculation was that it was the edge of Lewis' glove that made it. Which, in my opinion, is kind of unfortunate. Made for a bad victory on the part of the champion, and a bad loss on the part of the "loser."

Lewis should come in a bit lighter next time round and seriously do the business.

I doubt there will be a next time, at least for Klichko.
