    effective calf workout

Currently I simply do 3 sets of 10 on the seated calf raise with my toes pointing forward. Should I switch it up pointing toes in different directions, I'd like to increase my vertical jump.

I recently read that if you don't include exercises in which your leg is straight you won't effectively work your gastrocnemius, because it is in a relaxed position in exercises in which your leg is bent IE seated calf raises, but is worked in exercises in which your leg is straight IE Standing calf raises/donkey calf raises.

I have heard that doing squats would be more beneficial to a vertical leap. Perhaps even doing them explosively with little rest between sets, i.e. 8 sets of 2 reps with 60-65% of your 1 rep max.

If you want to increase your vertical jump then practice vertical jumping.

"Test all things; hold fast what is good.": 1 Thessalonians 5:21

"I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do--this I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.
So I find this law at work: When I want to do good, evil is right there with me. For in my inner being I delight in God's law; but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members. What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God--through Jesus Christ our Lord!"

Do some direct jumping work apart from practice and games. Try alot of explosive plyo exercise. Try lightweight jumping squats to along with your calve work.

I've found that mixing up when you train calves helps a lot.

A trick I use is to do a full calf workout everytime I have to wait for a piece of equipment at the gym.

If you work out at a busy gym and find yourself overtraining calves (which is hard to do) alternate calf workouts and forearm workouts when you have to wait.
