    My Trip to the ER

So yesterday morning I'm driving to work, when all of a sudden I have this sharp pain in my abdomen when I hit a bump. I think no big deal and go to work. Well it started to get really bad and I called my Dr and made an appoinment.

I tell him what happened he presses on my stomach and moved me around and referred me to the ER for a surgical consultation because he thinks it's my appendix.

I go to the ER and sit for two hours. Then the power goes out, and they finally call me back. I talk to the DR and he says that the onset of pain was too fast to be my appendix. So he said he thought it might be an ovarian cyst or twisted fallopian tube.

So they do a pelvic, draw some blood, give me a shot of something for muscle spasms, and leave me. Well it only took 3 hours to get one lab back. My white count was fine so they sent me home with no conclusion.

This was the worst trip ever to the ER, it was like a bad TV episode, that anything that could go wrong did. So at 9 pm I left the hospital still in pain, and no ac or power back at my house .

So untill the rest of my labs are in, they said to call Monday, any ideas, or suggestions. The pain has let up today, but it really makes me wonder what was going on.

    *shudders*

There's no such thing as onset of pain too fast to be appendicitis. Also the white blood cell count can be low, normal, or high. A study from my residency program found that the most sensitive indicator of appendicitis is point tenderness over McBurney's point. Better than CT, sono, labs, barium enema.

ER's suck, BTW. Not that you didn't already know that.

Thanks Delphi, the pain has gone down, it's just a dull constant pain now. My appitite also went up today, so I don't think it's that. I figure the blood work might be helpful when it comes back. I'm just taking it easy and exercising my blockbuster card LOL
