How heavy where the weights you were lifting when u first started?

I feel like a weakling when I read how much weight you all bench press and squat etc I can't even do half of the weight most of u can do. I'm not really a small guy I have natural broad shoulders but I can only:

Squat 42.5kg (although I may been able to squat higher than this because this is all the weights I can fit on my bar hoping to buy 2 20kg iron cast weights soon)

bicep curl 30kg ( I was doing 37.5kg but wasn't sure I was doing it right when i read u should lower the weight until your arms are completely straight and had the drop the weight much to the annoyance of my ego.)

Bench press 45kg (I am not sure what weight the gym bar is what is it usually)

I deadlift, clean and deadlift the same weight as I do squats with I just give these excerises as an example.

These are not my maximum one rep but it is what i use as 3 sets of 6-10

I am just wandering what u all started off at to see if this is normal to start off at these low weights.

    Heavy.

And they are still heavy two years later.

Because they are weights. And I'd be willing to say that absolute numbers don't mean anything, unless you're in a powerlifting competition or care to brag. Don't worry about absolutes; pay attention to YOUR improvement.

And do a lot of compound exercises and eat a lot. That is all.

If I were to start from scratch as a young 13 year old again, I would do every press, squat, and perhaps deadlifts, for my entire career with chains. -- Dan John

It's definitely normal to start off low, especially if you're a beginner, you'll progress quickly. I'm working out in the 6-8 rep range with more than double the weight i was using when I started 6 months ago, and my max has more than doubled too.

Some of the guys here have been working out for years, and others are just freaks. Don't worry about them ,just worry about beating your previous records every time you go in the gym. Give it time, and you'll see results

What these guys said. Really, everybody has tremendously different natural strength... I know guys who have put up over 200 on their second or third try benching. But they are a true rarity.

Since you may want some perspective.... 2.5+ years ago, I struggled with:

    Bench: 65 pounds/ 30kg
    Squat: 85 pounds/ 38kg
    Deadlift: 95 pounds/ 44kg

i started, roughly a year ago, with:

    bench: 65lb 1RM
    squat: 135lb 1RM
    deadlift: 95lb 1RM

    currently:

    bench: 225lb 1RM
    squat: 335lb 1RM
    deadlift: 350lb 1RM.

    long term goals:

    bench: 315lbs 1RM
    squat: 450lbs 1RM
    deadlift: 500lbs 1RM

    lets see how it goes

edit: since you mentioned them... as for curls, i started with the 15lb dumbbells (struggling like hell), now i'm doing the 45s and 50s.

    6/6/03-6/12/03
    Bench: 90x7
    Squat: 120x10
    Deadlift: 105x6
(form was probably bad on squat and dead, so actual weights with good form would probably be lower ie, not going to parallel on squats)

    9/2/03 Bench: 185x1
    8/13/03 Squat: 285x1
8/30/03 Dead: 245x6 (will test 1RM in a few weeks)

unshift, are long term goals are about the same, lol.

I can't remeber what my first max's were. I have been lifting since 6 or 7th grade, but I only did it a few times a year, and only recently started seriously lifting, but I remember I could bench 100 lbs, I didn't know about the squat or deadlift then, but now (I just did my first DL about a month ago) was 200, I can only do so much with squats because I don't have a rack, so I have to snatch and press it then go to squat position, but I can do 101 pounds extremely easy, I can only snatch that much or a little more, so I don't know what my real max is.
