Thinking about another source of food for me to eat, getting tired of the regular.
But for cereal, I don't eat it with a spoon so I was wandering if I could make a shake outta it with my blender and drink it down with a straw and a spoon.
My favorite brand is Raison Brand but I can imagine that it isn't good for us bodybuilders.
Current stats - 5'11, 190, 19%bf, beer gut.
I got beef with whoever can't help me make money - 50
raisin bran is pretty good, there is a bit of added sugar but the bran balances it out i would think. and rasisn get you some fruit
It seems like most cereals with the exception of a few are loaded with sugar. It seems like even the stuff I thought wasn't ended up being loaded once I checked the label.
Of course, I don't see much wrong with having one or two cheat meals a day.

I would say it depends on your goals, since raisin bran is a pretty calorie dense cereal. You can also check into Kashi brand cereals which are relatively low calorie/high fiber and taste good as well. The main thing is to just check out the nutrition label and look at the amount of sugar, fiber and total cals that the cereal contains.

I was referring to the total calories contained in raisin bran, since raisins are relatively calorie dense themselves (~128 calories per 1.5oz) which when combined with the bran flakes will make for a large amount of calories per bowl of cereal. This is the reason that I said raisin bran might be a good choice depending on your current goals, i.e. bulking/cutting.Originally posted by Spartacus

As far as the sugar content in raisins, it is about 50/50 fructose glucose. There are ~25g of sugar in 1.5oz of raisins and of that 25g ~12g come from glucose and ~13g from fructose. Sugar is sugar whether it comes from raisins or added into the cereal.![]()
there is a ceral called optimum nutrition by nature's path, it seems to be decent, tastes good too. according to the label, 1 cup(55g) contains: 180cals, 20 cals from fat, 2.5g fat, 0 sat fat, 0 cholesterol, 250mg sodium, 38g carbs, 11g fiber, 10g sugar, and 9g protien.

what about taking large raw oat flakes with milk and then throwing in some raisins?

Sure that would work just fine, but my whole point is that raisins are a calorie dense food, so if you are following a strict cutting diet it might not be the best choice. If you are trying to increase LBM and require a greater amount of calories then I think it would be a good choice.Originally posted by Manveet

I agree, I LOVE this cereal. It's delicious and has a great nutritional balance. There's also one made by Peace Cereals called Essential 10, it's similar and also really good.Originally posted by Jasonl

In general, I look for organic cereals that are high-fiber, low in sugars. It's a bonus if they have some protein and omega fatty acids to them.
I personally always add my own raisins from the box to my cereal. As said before, the raisin bran raisins are covered in sugar, which I don't need. I figure if the cereal is a bit low in sugar and bland, I can add my own dash of honey to taste, without covering it all in sugar.
Of course regular oatmeal is a great breakfast cereal, although I find it less satisfying in the summer because it is so hot.
