ofcourse we all beleive in the idea of over training including me too but i have read so far in flex magazine that LEE PREIST said that over training was a camouflage here's what i read:Almost no one trains with enough sets. Every bodypart must be beaten into senseless submission by set after relentless set, until the last synapse sputters and dies. You’ll never reach that point if you’ve been sold that bill of goods called overtraining. There’s no such thing. Overtraining was invented by wimps to camouflage their inability to train hard. They say, “Because it’s a small muscle group, never do more than nine sets.”
To me, that’s not training your biceps. Even with 20 sets, you’re not shocking them, only training them. A legitimate advanced shock workout not only constitutes at least 20 sets, but all of them must be working sets, each one to failure. Don’t count any warm-up sets, regardless of the pump you get.
maybe i understood it wrong but you'd better read it.!!!!!
Grinch, you are probably not wrong, but consider the source. Lee Priest has more drugs flowing through his system than my local drug store. I'd like to see what Mr. Priest would look like doing that many sets and training natural for a few years. I've said this 100 times, drugs alter the equation. I know, I have tried them and was able to train 6 days per week with quite a few more sets than I advocate and still made incredible gains. I promised you, the amount that I took (1 drug in limited doses at a time for a total of about 3 months) doesn't even come close to the amount he takes. If you respect professional bodybuilders, why don't you take a look at what Dorian Yates has to say on the subject. I don't think Mr. Priest has won any Olympias, or any pro show for that matter. I do think Mr. Yates has. Of course Dorian took a lot of drugs as well, but at least he didn't fill people's heads with a bunch of bull****.
Grinch,
A couple of things you have to understand, first off all the ifbb pros are on gear. When you are on AS, you can do a lot more volume. There are people out there who do believe in high volume, myself included, but most people do not achieve results with high volume. Overtraining is not a myth, it does happen, especially to those who train high volume. In my opinion, if you want training advice, don't consult the people in flex magazine. The people who know how to train and get results are the guys on here. Chris, Mac, Paul, and a few others are the guys you want to talk to. I'm not trying to blow sunshine up their butts but the methods they use work. Train low volume, with high intensity and you'll get results.
May you be in heaven an hour before the devil knows you're dead.
Grinch I think you allready know that steroids are in this equation.Myself personaly, I cannot curl 10 lbs after I have done my 2 exercises of 2 sets each for biceps, but I am also a low volume high intensity advocate.
WOW 20 sets???
Wait till Chris reads this!!!

I doubt Lee actually wrote that. I've corresponded with Lee via messageboards and e-mails, and he's not capable of that level of writing. (Words like 'synapse' are a giveaway)
Most of the 'articles' in the mags are ghost written.
Even if that's what he does, what works for him (a genetic wonder) may not work at all for you or me.
I also question the length of time that must take, and the lack of intensity to be able to complete that much work.
You also have to understand there is a big difference between someone who is trying to go from 14 inch arms to 17 inch arms, and someone like Lee who is trying to go from 20 inch arms to 20.1 inch arms.
I think Lee's biceps would look the same if he did 2 sets of curls once a week.
Good point about the ghost writing Paul. We must have all been responding simultaneously.
I never thought about the ghost writing thing Paul, now that I think about it I doubt most of the bodybuilders would have that much knowledge about biochemistry.
May you be in heaven an hour before the devil knows you're dead.
Interesting side note about Lee Priest. It's been my experience that hes a complete jerk. I know lots of folks say he's great with his fans, but what I saw was the complete opposite. (He's also not the sharpest knife in the drawer.)
However, in talking to him, and some other folks I know who know him (one who's helped him in the area of precontest preparation), Lee doesn't use nearly as much as one would think.. he really is quite a genetic wonder.
It's true that it was an atricle with Lee Priest's name on it. It's from a flex from 2-3 months back.
I only posted this to tell Paul that i was pizzing myself laughing about his comments on Lee's intelligence...hahahahah.....
