    Thin Bone Structure and BB'ers

Does anyone know of any successful BB'ers with thin Bone structure? I was only wondering because I've been cursed with this and it makes it much more difficult to look big when you are built that way.

Thin bone structure? You mean like small joints and such? IMO it adds to the look as it contrasts well with larger muscles, making you seem larger when weighing less. Also helps in the lighter weight classes.

According to Arnold's Encyclopedia of BBing, Flex Wheeler and Frank Zane are both ecto-mesomorphs. I have the same problem. I wish I'd have been able to start out with naturally broad shoulders.

HY's got a point. I think the muscle taper can be exaggerated as it tapers down to a smaller joint. It's all left up to personal opinion, but I think it can make muscles look bigger.

Hm. Thin bone structure is a bonus when one is a bodybuilder. Every ounce of muscle is more visible.

Will here is a great example of that. He's fairly puny, but with his smaller bone structure, looks pretty big.

I, on the other hand, have 12" ankles. My calves are over 18", but look to have almost no shape or size because my ankles are so large.

Yep, my calves which are only an inch smaller than fat boy's here, look tons better due to my 6" ankles. And so in that vein, so do my arms. :evillaugh

What she meant to say was that you always wear pants to cover up those ankle sized calves.

That was interesting, but thanks for the responses. When I say its harder to look big its because I have to pack on that much more mass to look as thick as the guy with thicker bones.

BTW Will, I do remember you having a thinner bone structure but, how tall are you?

Yeah, that's the one drawback. Or at least in street clothes. It tends to be tougher to put on mass, and because the base is smaller it can appear that what's there is smaller.

yea those of us with thin bones do look better..and sexier with our shirts off but i know from experience that with shirts on, even those of us who are jacked tend to look skinny.. people thought i was really skinny, then they saw me at the pool or somethin and were wowed.. but i'd rather not have that in the first place, ya' know

I have thin bone structure but I have broad shoulders . When I was skinny I looked skinny but as soon as I put on a little bit of muscle I looked big . People would ask " damn ... what do you weigh about 220 ?" when I only weighed about 195 . now I'm a fat 225 hahahaha .

    Hey Justin,

Check out Eddie Silva on this page: http://www.classicbodybuilders.co.uk/s.shtml

He won the Mr Universe (short men's division) in 1964. He was 5'3" and had a really thin bone structure, but he was able to overcome it really well. Here's a newspaper article about him: http://www.suntimes.co.za/1999/07/25/insight/in13.htm

Silva's a pretty big inspiration to me. I'm 5' 8", with wrists of 6.5" and ankles of 8.5". (John Grimek, for comparison, was the same height, but had 8" wrists and 10" ankles!)

Thanks a lot for the help people.

This whole thought process occured to me because my roomie bought me 'Pumping Iron: 25th Aniversary Edition'. As I was staring at my personal hero in awe, as per the usual, I thought to myself, I could never look that big.

    It was all very depressing.

'Can't' never could. He was tall, but personally, I don't think I'll have any problems getting something close to those proportions for my height. (Maybe its a pipe dream, but no harm in having a positive frame of mind. )

Having a positive frame of mind is huge when it comes to bodybuilding. You can either pine over what you don't have going for you, or get excited over what you do have going for you and use that as motivation to press on.

I have a hard time developing my chest due to a very mild case of PE but on the flip side I have great genetics and the rest of my body looks great. It's my choice what I choose to focus on.
Best way to cheat on deadlifts...

Stand there for a few minutes, then pace back and forth a lot, huff and puff, wait until everybody's looking. Approach the bar. Back off. Approach it again. Back off. Get some water. Chalk up. Approach the bar again. Then spray some more chalk around. Wait until people start losing interest. When nobody's looking, pick it a little off the floor, and slam it down. Jump up and yell "LIGHT WEIGHT BABY". Then give high fives all around. - Belial

Isnt it obvious that a small bone structure would make you look bigger with some muscle? I mean look how big your body looks with that tiny-ass head!!!
