Well I want to start drinking a protien shake in the morning and after each work out. I went to a nearby supermarket and I was simply overwhelmend by the variety of diet shakes available. So I'm turning to you experts to determine what to get. I would like to drink a shake with glutamine in it unless you all think it is not needed for a begineer to have. What shake powder should I get, how much does it cost, and what was your typical shake? Thank you.
I wonder if he just opened Pandora's box...........
Train.
personally I was hooked by the staff at proteinfactory.com
they are hardcore and offer umptizillion options for you to create your own shakes.
pricewise I think they are spot on (having compared the sale of individual proteins/carbs/fats with other products)
*cough* atlargenutrition.com *cough*

IMO the best shake (which I have been using for 3 years) is Designer Whey. Each serving has 2.8g of glutamine and 17.5g prot with only 1.5fat and 1 carb. Even better the vanilla flavor taste great, I just mixed 3 scoops with some orange juice and I wanted to drink more because it actually taste good. Trust me on this - Designer Whey - Vanilla (chocolate is a wannabe nasty ass chocolate so get vanilla)

I have ordered from both protein factory and protein customizer. For the powders I buy, protein customizer is much less expensive. Good quality to boot.
Nectar- apple flavor, best tasting protein I have ever consumed, and at 23 g's of protein per 90 calories it represents a superior yield of protein to calories in my opinion.
Simply weigh, or whatever EAS calls it now is pretty good, and you get a lot of servings for the money. Right now I am using Met-Rx meal replacement, its good stuff.

ON 100% Whey. Tastes great. Less filling.
whoah 10 replies and none of them chris mason? lol
i'd recommend vanilla opitmum nutrition whey from www.1fast400.com or support this site with nitrean from atlargenutrition
Vanilla and orange juice? is this a typo?Originally Posted by dxiw
I don't think glutamine is worth the money as a beginner unless you have plenty of money to be throwing around.
I usually get a 10 lb bag of 100% Whey Protein (Chocolate) from 1fast400.com. The price and service there has been absolutely excellent. I ordered a 10lb bag Thursday night, paid $5.00 for shipping and got it in on Friday morning, and it hasn't taken more than 2 days to get it to me ever. I also don't think that any other company offers 10 lbs of protein for $45, which 1fast400 does.
If you buy the Whey you probably also want to buy a little Casein from proteinfactory.com so that you have a good source of protein at night, though I suppose you could just substitute eggs for it.
Also, Opticen has had great reviews in taste and protein/nutritional value, and has a good amount of both slow and fast acting protein. You might want to go that route, as it will be the only protein you'll really need ... and it'll help out Chris.
