I've had hip pain for about 2 years and am going to try resting/iceing/advil for about a month to see if I can get it to go away. Is that long enough or should I just go on how I feel?
Edit: I've been to the doc twice and they said it was muscular...

I'm sure no one cares but just in case... one of the symptoms i have is muscle tightness while I'm sitting at work. It appears to be getting better as I have been here all morning and it really isn't that stiff. Should I keep waiting until it completely goes away to go back to doing leg exercises??
Also I'm pretty sure it is my Gluteus medius that is getting tight.

I'd see a specialist to determine the cause and what you can do to prevent/fix it. It's pretty difficult to give a diagnosis over the internet, especially since most of us aren't doctors. :P

Well that's the thing, I've been to the doc twice. The first time he wrote a prescription for PT and I didn't go (i know, bad move). The second time, the guy told me to get a personal trainer and didn't give me a prescription for PT. I was really pissed.
I guess i'll just wait until i have no tightness...
I had hip problems too. I saw a sports medicine doc. It turned out I had pulled my piriformis...it's a muscle that sits over your sciatic nerve. It took about a month to get it diagnosed correctly, and it took about 2 weeks of therapy to fix. Keep in mind that I'd had problems with it for almost a year, and my regular doc couldn't get it figured out. It took a specialist and about 3 tries to get it right. My point isn't that this is what you could have, but what you should do. Best of luck on it.Originally Posted by Paladyr

If it isn't a whole lot better by the end of the week I'm calling my doc and demanding a referral for physical therapy. Thanks for the advice!
Hey I have a question for you. The resting and icing is definitely working for me. I'm sitting at work and it is hardly tight any longer. My question is, did your doc have you do exercises or did you go back to lifting weights but just started light? I know what exercises I need to do to strengthen the hurt area but am not sure if I need to do them. Also, when did you start the exercises? did he make you wait until it no longer hurt??Originally Posted by ectx
My doc had me go through physical therapy for one month. Mainly the would iontophorese a steroid into the muscle, they would then do a series of exercises and stretches with me followed by ice.
Well crap. I guess I'll try to find some exercises for the muscle on my own, and if it gets worse I'll call the doc.Originally Posted by ectx
What about the time he made you wait before you could start doing exercises? Did he wait until there was no pain/tightness?
And yea, send along those exercises, i'll check 'em out. Couldn't hurt to do them all. Thanks for the help!
