This was taken from part of another thread, but I choose to reply in a new thread, since the original thread was about another topic.
Romans 16 Verses 1-4
"I commend to you our sister Phoebe, who is a servant of the church which is at Cenchrea; that you receive her in the Lord in a manner worthy of the saints and that you help her in whatever she may have need of you; for she herself has been a helper of many and of myself as well "
Italics are mine. Paul here admits that a woman helped him, presumably in matters of the faith. Would a woman-hater do this?
Corinthians 1 Chapter 7 Verse 4
"The wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does; and likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does."
Both husband and wife are shown to be equal here. Would a woman hater do this?
Ephesians Chapter 5 Verse 28
"So husbands ought also to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself;"
Does this sound like a woman hater?
Timothy 1 Chapter 4 Verses 1-3
"But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctorines of demons, by means of the hypocrisy of liars seared in their own conscience as with a branding iron, men who forbid marriage and advocate abstaining from foods, which God has created to be gratefully shared in by those who believe in and know the truth.
Paul says here to beware of those men, who among other things forbid marriage
Again this doesn't sound much like a woman-hater.
Now about those verses where Paul says that the woman should submit to the man?
Back in those times, the wife was regarded as little more than the husband's property. She had no real rights of her own. To advocate that she had the rights that say today's woman has, would have been unthinkable. Remember most of Paul's letters were written to NEW christians. You give people who are new to the faith what they can accept, and then later when they are stronger in the faith, that is when you can put forth some radical ideas.
And Paul's ideas regarding women (see Corinthians and Ephesians) were quite radical for the times. Plus he had numberous woman friends. Romans 16 Verses 4-15. In these verses he names numberous friends, both male and female.
Again this doesn't sound like a women-hater. Simply more of a practical man, and one who advocated MORE rights for women, then most men of his day.

The Bible is an interesting book in that you can find a verse that will support your opinion, NO MATTER WHAT OPINION YOU MAY HOLD.
Pointless argument. If we could ask Paul, that'd be one thing.

It's the ability to pick and choose what you want to believe and not believe about the Bible that has led Christianity to what it is today. Stupid Jerry Falwell. The Bible is an interesting book in that you can find a verse that will support your opinion, NO MATTER WHAT OPINION YOU MAY HOLD.
