Very much the same song by two different artists, one Dutch and one American. same song title- Suzanne.
Its a slow calm love song about a girl called Suzanne obviously, its voice and a guitar and nothing else. Lyrics make some kind of melancholic comparison between the girl and jesus.
I really just want to know which is the original. The dutch one is by Herman van Veen and the American one is one I downloaded that has no artist title.
Id say the Dutch one is certainly better- I want to know who is the American singing and who wrote it. van Veen writes loads of stuff, but he does covers too

I'm pretty sure the original is by Leonard Cohen.

Thanks you are right. His website says the song is from the 1968 album Songs of " "
Herman van brought out his version in 1987 so he must have copied off cohen, but I see now he credits him for it too...
anyway thats ok cuz his version is better
Why did I want to know this again?
Yeah, yeah. Wooden shoes are better than rubber ones, we know. We've heard it all before.
As a side note, I think I'll download both and compare - and I'll tell YOU which one is better. What I'm wondering, though, is if Hank Williams ever did a version.. Then we all KNOW who wins.

One correction: Leonard Cohen is Canadian. Not American.Originally Posted by Reinier
haha. the dutch version is in dutch so it will obviously appeal to you less than the english one. I just think the dutch is better lyrically, the change there is quite drastic, its mainly more poetic.Originally Posted by Gyno Rhino
