Are Seat Belts a Law where you live?

I would like to know if it is required to wear a seat belt while driving where you live. I used to never wear one until i had a daughter and i felt like a hypocrtic for making her wear one and for me not to. And in PA its a law "click it or Ticket it" plus you can see what happens if you dont wear one

Yes, it's a law, and a stupid one.

If you're of sound mind and mature, you can decide to not buckle up if it suits you.

Not buckling up a minor that is far from mature should be a crime, though.

seatbelts are the law here, and it's a good thing, tougher driving tests/ more driver education would help too.

yeah its a law here, unless you're a cop.

Don't like the law, but it's not enforced excessively anyway. Usually just get a warning and read a pamphlet.

It's a law here, I believe you get a ticket with a fine on it. You pay the fine, it's wiped off your record.

Sometime I put on my seatbelt as a force of habit. Sometimes I don't.

They are the law. Although there are exceptions. If you're over age 18 and in the back seat, you're not required to wear one. You're also not required to wear one when in a vehicle with truck plates.

In Memphis, it is illegal for a woman to drive by herself, unless a man is walking or running infront of the vehicle, waving a red flag in order to warn approaching pedestrians and motorists.

It's a law here in Alabama, and yes, we have the silly "Click It or Ticket" campaign.

I wear my seatbelt, and think everyone should, but who am I to say that a grown man or woman in their own car has to? I agree with an earlier comment, though, that children (I suppose 12 or under would be about right) should be required to wear one.

We discussed this before. It should not be illegal not to wear them, but insurance shouldnt have to cover the physical damage to people in car crashes who dont wear them.

Well it makes it impossible for a woman in the passenger seat to give oral sex to the driver without breaking the law.

I always wondered if that behaviour causes a lot of accidents?

Well, the law shouldn't be able to force you to protect yourself in your own car. Like I said, I think it's stupid not to wear one, but you're not hurting me by your negligence. What's next? Everytime you go out to a club or bar, that the police will make sure you have a condom with you? Y'know, don't want to catch any diseases that you've been fully aware that are out there since you were 12.

We all know the risks of not wearing a seat belt, and unprotected sex. It's up to us whether we'll gamble and not wear a seat belt or a rubber, not the government.

Also, it really seems like a waste of time and resources. You have the cops pulling folks over for not wearing a damn seatbelt, wasting their time by issuing a $10 fine and a pamplet, when they should be working to figure out some unsolved crimes, or preventing something that's actually threatening to society.

In my state they cannot pull you over for not wearing it. But they can fine you for not wearing it if they stop you for another reason. its a 52 fine

This is one of the cases where I don't see any problem on infringing on a person's rights. I know it is a slippery slope but this is one of the cases were it make so much sense to do so.

I'm generally against government regulation of anything, but I can see a point in the seatbelt case.

The other option I can see is allow the car insurance company to say the hell with you if you weren't wearing your seatbelt and ripped your head open when you hit the pavement.

everyonce in awhile they have a campaign where they say they will pull you over if your not wearing one, its a fishing trip. There looking for drunks. They make more on them. Though $50+ they make for the seat belt is a decent profit.

It's a law here and should be. I don't care if you're stupid enough to not wear your seat belt and go through the windshield but I don't want my insurance to go up for your dumb a$$.

I'd really like to see some impartial statistics on this. One could argue I have a better chance of being killed which, would lead to less payout.

I am for freedom to decide. Whats next a law saying I can't tease pitbulls? Where does it end?

Fatalities and accidents involving those not wearing seat belts costs the U.S. approximately $20 billion per year. Of that cost, 74% of the tab is paid for by the public.--- NHTSA

FYI... it's damn hard to find anything that's "impartial" since you can argue that really doesn't exist.

I'm with the pro-choice side. If you want to put yourself at risk who is the government to tell you that you can't? It's a victimless crime.

in a bad accident, a seatbelt wont dont anything but hold you still while you get F'd up. seat belts are also the number one cause of back injuries in accidents.

that being said, ive had two tickets for not wearing seat belts. the first for 25 bux, the 2nd for 95

I've known more then one person that has been in a serious acciedent (totalled the entire car. 1 honda accord 1 maxima se 1 acura integra and a few other models i don't know.) In many of those seatbelts played a key roll in saving their life. When you roll a car and you don't have a seat belt on you = ragdoll. He had a seatbelt on and left unscathed.
