Saturday I did legs, and after I was done I figured I would jump on the tread mill and do my usual 3 or 4 miles.
Well, my legs were so drained I got to 1/2mile and had to stop. I felt like a wuss, and about half embarressed.
I guy here at work is telling me to do cardio before I lift. I was under the impression that this is bad, because you dont have all of your energy left for lifting. Any truth, whats the deal? Cardio before, after, or not at all on lifting days?
If you can, it's best to separate the two and do cardio on a non-lifting day. Otherwise, you won't have your full energy for whatever you decide to do second.
If you can't alternate cardio days w/ lifting days, do whatever your priority is first. If you are concentrating on lifting, do that first. If you are concentrating on cardio, do that first.
Alternatively, you could also split them by a.m./p.m. Sometimes when I lift early in the morning, I'll run in the evening.
Mixing cardio and leg day NEVER works for me. Those two just can't go together...

What are your goals? Cardio before workouts is terrible if building muscle and/or getting stronger is your goal. If your friend wants to run a marathon, tell him to go run and keep on running just like Forrest, but if you or him want to try and build some muscle, lift first and worry about the cardio another time.

Idealy my goal is to build muscle, so I guess I will try to alternate my cardio, and lifting days...thanks
I Never do cardio on leg day tuttut
I always do a 5 - 10 min cardio warmup b4 lifting but I think any serious cardio session would deplete your glycogen stores and your lifting would suffer.
Exactly how much cardio b4 lifting is too much but 100-150 calories worth probably does good.
Good advice IceRgrrl.*points to Ice..* Listen to this woman.

do weights before carios. if you are doing cardio on a weight day due to time restriciton etc then i would do cardio after a smaller body part like arms day etc
legs are grueling i would wanna rest if i did legs...................
:o
if i can make it to the car
you can do 5 or so minutes of light cardio to warm everything up, any more and you'll deplete your glycogen (source of energy for anaerobic metabolism)
I workout at 6:40 am and do cardio at 2:45 pm.
Don't do cardio after you lift. You need to get home and feed your muscles as soon as your done lifting.
If your trying to gain muscle. Be careful of the type of cardio you're doing. I think 3 - 4 mile sessions would hinder your growth potential.
I would listen to that girl named Ice.
She's pretty darn smart and cute.

"I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do--this I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.
So I find this law at work: When I want to do good, evil is right there with me. For in my inner being I delight in God's law; but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members. What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God--through Jesus Christ our Lord!"

As Icegirl says, Split the two. Perform your cardio on non-weight days or in the mornings if you lift in the evenings.

Cardio on leg day???![]()

I can barely crawl up the stairs to get to the changeroom after legs...and then I just about fall down the stairs on my way out. If someone told me I had to do cardio after legs I'd probably just start crying like a little girl. tuttut
