Wow!, are my calories that low.

    Ive been looking at a few other peoples cutting diets, particulary those on low/no carb diets like myself. Ive got the feeling im not eating enough, but the thing is im generaly losing steady weight and increasing strength. Heres what i eat;

    Mon-Fri

    730am - 1 piece fruit / vegetable
    830am - 1 glass water
    930am - 1 piece fruit / vegetable
    1030am - 1 glass water
    1130am - 1 piece fruit / vegetable
    130pm - 210g salmon, 1 glasss water
    300pm - workout
630pm - 200-300g of meat (chicken, beef, fish, etc)
    - and a good portion of vegetables, glass of water.

    Sat & Sun

Generally sat and sun are both 'cheat days', not neccassarily eating bad food, just alot more, cereal for breakfast, meal for lunch, meal for dinner, snack in between etc

So is it okay that i only eat this much? The Mon-Fri calories would be at best around 600-800. My weight loss although fairly steady is quite low only around 0.25 - 0.5 kg a week. Do you think if i increased calories the weight would come off quicker?

If you Increase the calories, the weight will come off slower, depending on how much you add... Slower is usually better in the sense that you won't lose as much muscle.

Been on this diet for around 1 month, before that i was eating more calories but weight loss stopped, the new diet has got things moving again. My abs are the most visible theyve ever been and my strength has surpassed my 198 pound bulk (currently 169 pounds)

you are essentially starving yourself. your body doesn't like to be starved. in retaliation, your body will shut down and slow many metabolic processes. this will make it virtually impossible to lose weight AND look good AND be healthy. you MUST eat more. not only will you feel better, but your body will function better. what you are doing is seriously unhealthy -- think anorexia.

    Agreed.

You couldn't possibly be doing yourself greater harm.

    Eat.

Could someone give an example of a more appropriate diet. Also, what are your thoughts on the fact that wieght is decreasing at an acceptable rate, i have no visible muscle loss, infact i measured things like arm size, waist size, chest etc at the end of my bulk and basically arms, chest have stayed that same, waist has decreased, and legs increased. My strength has improved. I dont feel unwell or anything. Are you sure its neccassary to eat more. Dont mean to sound ungrateful for your opinions tho. Cheers

It is absolutely mandatory. Unless of course, you're like 6 years old.

Yeah i drink at the gym almost between every set. Im also wondering how im able to increase strength, everyone told me you cant when cutting, but ive been acting as if im not on a cut, adding small increments each time i go, taking long rests between sets etc, and my strength hasnt gone. Of course i feel thrashed after the gym but thats about it.

When you look on the food label, there are two energy ratings right?, on is KJ and the other is calories, maybe im reading the wrong one. Im reading the on thats calories, its about 4 times less than the KJ

It doesnt seem to be that much of a low food diet anyway. When i was at school al i ate was breakfast, lunch, and tea. This is almost the same.

Let's do the math, here, shall we?

Let's assume you eat no vegetables, only fruits. Let's also assume you eat large fruits. Hell, let's assume you eat beef rather than chicken, turkey, or tuna.

    One large apple: 80 calories

Let's assume you eat three of them over the day: 240 calories.

    210g salmon: Roughly 400 calories, I'd estimate.

    200-300g meat: 400-600 calories.

At a MAXIMUM, you are getting perhaps 1200 calories, which is woefully insufficient.

Now let's do a more reasonable calculation:

    Broccoli: 20 calories
    Orange:50 calories
    Broccoli: 20 calories
    210g salmon: 400 calories
    200-300g chicken: 300 calories

    Wow. All of 800 calories.

Heh, when the big V says you're eating too little, you're eating DAMN little.

Why all the fruit on a "low carb" diet? Not that I think you should exclude it, but bring up the rest of your calories.

You should be trying to get a significant protein source in each meal. Milk, eggs, salmon, tuna, meat, whatever. Each meal.

Look around on here some more, find out what people are doing for diets. We've gone through a lot, and you're in the right place.
