Ok, i know this sounds wierd, but after reading many of the posts (particuallry in general chat), i have come to the conclusion that the WBB forum is a collection of the most educated (formal and informal) that i know (yes it sounds wierd). My mother did not attend college (we moved to the US when i was 1), and all my friends that have pursued post high school education to go to a community college. I have tried consulting my uni consoulers, but they only offer advice that coincides with me staying with my current college
The question i have been muling over the past few weeks concerns my future pursuit of education. Right now, i am a sophmore at Univ. California Santa Barbara. I want to transfer to Berekely (Univ. Penn ideally), but the problem that comes into mind immedialtely is whether it will be worth the sacrifice down the line. For one, i will have to move farther away from home, and another problem is i will have to leave behind friendships that have developed over my stay at UCSB. The primary reason for me wanting to transfer is simply for future finicial gain- i imagine that in the working world a degree from Berekly is superior ( or at least a tad better) then one from Santa Barbara. Additionally, i will be attending grade school after my undergraduate study. I wish to attend U Penn or Stanford, but i realize that it will be extremely difficult if i finish my undergrad studies at SB.
Could someone please offer some advice? I dont know who else to ask. I realize that it will ultimately be my descion, but I would appreciate hearing some opinions about what you would do in the same situation.
what would you be studying in grad school?
is money an issue when considering changing colleges? (relocation/travel/housing expenses)
Also, have you visited UPenn?
Its not in a great area.

Business management or something along those lines. I just want to live out the american dream- you know, go to a grad school, work for a couple years , then start my own multi-million dollar business and live stresss free for the rest of my life. Money is definately an issue right now , but i doubt it could be any more expensive then santa barbara! (~500 a month for sharing a room). The housing at Berekely should be cheaper, my friend who goes their right now pays about 300 a month for his rent. However, i understand how it could be another problem if i get accepted into Upenn. But i am willing to take out student loans, pay the outrageously high fees, and be in debt if thats what it takes to be "smart" in our society!Originally Posted by geoffgarcia
My previous residence (i live in Gardena right now), was in Compton, so i dont care about the area much.
For Business and if you're smart here's my recommened plan of attack. Make sure whatever major you want to do is really good at Berkeley. Then from there, MBA at Harvard. Then go join the workforce. You have to be awesome though to go to Harvard, but its something to shoot for, and yes, you will make a lot of money.
If you're in a tech field at berkely you're be making a whole lot once you leave Harvard.

American cars are like fat people, sure, they have a lot of power, but they're not built well, and they have all that useless weight, plus they make both make funny noises.
