One of our sponsored athletes, James "Pitt Bull" Searcy just squatted 1003 lbs in competition last night.
Other than the ridiculous weight, what makes this so amazing is that he just got his first squat suit about a week before the contest (an Inzer Leviathan). He had no time to acclimate to the suit.
His intention was to try 1150 lbs for a new record but he had to do 1003 lbs twice due to missing depth. He needs to get used to his suit and learn how to get to depth with it. As he told me, he had a "lot" left in him with 1003 lbs. The suit just made it hard for him to hit depth.
He also mentioned he will be training with Jon Grove and Steve Goggins at the North Georgia Barbell Club with some regularity now. This is awesome as anyone who knows powerlifting knows those 2 men are giants of the game (no pun intended).
Congratulations to big James!
Thats insane, just insane.
No videos of it, Chris?

"Test all things; hold fast what is good.": 1 Thessalonians 5:21
"I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do--this I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.
So I find this law at work: When I want to do good, evil is right there with me. For in my inner being I delight in God's law; but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members. What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God--through Jesus Christ our Lord!"

Nope, no video. I did not attend the meet.
James is 6'2" tall and roughly 330 lbs. The lift will not be officially recognized due to the fact that he only squatted in the meet. His suit took so long to get on it interfered with his completing the rest of the meet. He is going to have the suit altered a bit to make it easier to use.
The meet was the APF Georgia State Championships held by Jon Grove another of our athletes.
James has informed me that he plans to go for 1100 lbs + sometime in December. With the help of Mr. Goggins and Mr. Grove I think it is only history from here for James.
nice squat! i still think it will be a while before anyone catches big brent mikesell though.

I take it Fred Hatfield's record is shot now by Mikesell? What's James taking?

James claims to be clean in terms of drug use and I believe him. I do so because I have met him in person and spoken to him several times and I believe he is a truthful man.Originally Posted by superior_will
In terms of AtLarge's products, he goes through a ton of Opticen and Creatine 500 every month. He also uses Nitrean, but not to the extent he uses Opticen.
^^ Thanks for the info guys.![]()

The man is a total beast! I competed at a meet in 2003 where he was head judge. On one of the bench attempts, in which the bar was loaded with over 500 lbs., he apparently didn't like the position of the bench. So he effortly reached over and slid the bench to a position of his liking, all while staying seated in his chair.
Does it really count if he's wearing a squat suit? Isn't that a bit like wearing body armour in a boxing match?
You have alot of different powerlifting leagues...some will allow single ply suits....double...and otheres none at all
You can wear some 'armour' too, if you'd like.Originally Posted by superdeathflame
