    Why don't more people superset?

I feel like I'm the only guy in my gym who supersets. I don't get it!

I have read that supersetting promotes more growth. Also, by almost constantly working, you get the benefits of cardio. Let's not forget supersetting saves time.

Why don't more people do this?

Well i dont think its a good idea to superset every time you go into a gym, breaks are good and benaficial. And i dont think a lot of people that go to gym know about supersets. I throw it in Once or twice a month.

supersetting is not for me because i need the break to recuperate energy. if i superset then i wont have enough energy to do the normal weights.

I don't think supersetting is the ideal way to promote growth. However, I sometimes do them just to mix things up but with lighter weight and after I have performed my heavy sets.

I know how you feel, everyone in my gym sits around waiting most of the time, not even breaking a sweat.

I superset all the time. With different muscles used. Maybe this is called something else. eg. I will superset bench with leg press. This gives the muscles time to recover between sets, without having to wait all day. As long as you're not too out of breath (eg legs), I cant see a problem doing this.

People often superset two exercises for the same muscle, having a similar effect to a drop set, it gives a good burn and pump. Fatigue kicks in after the first set, so I'm not too sure this type of supersetting is good. Can give you DOMS like it was your first time again... Which is good if you like pain!

I don't do them. I like to give every set 100% effort using as much weight as I can. If I superset 2 exercises, I obviously can't use the max. weight on both.

I usually just superset smaller muscles like biceps and delts and abs (are delts considered small muscles?). It works great. I've superset chest before but I avoid it now out of fear of overtraining.

I used to do them. As special K mentioned, you can't give 100% if you do superset. Also, I don't feel I have to trash my muscles like that to get results.

you cant give 100% to the specific excercise yes, but i think it is the best way to give the most towards the specific muscle.

I really don't see the benefits of supersetting, as mentioned above they are more for fatigue if that is your goal. I would prefer to do a hard and intense set than to run around doing some other exercise. Also, people hogging multiple pieces of equipment is rude and an annoyance of other gym members.

I Superset once every 3 to 4 months to break up the boredom. Eight to twelve reps and one minute between sets is enough.

    What am I on?
My back for the bench press.
    My feet for the squat.
    What are you on?

i believe that a superset can be much more intense than a regular set. For instance, say you are doing a bench press. You get under the bar and do one complete set to failure, for say 8 reps. You have reached complete failure in that set. Then you sit up, grab two db's and perform 6 repetitions of flat flyes. You have now hit failure twice in a very short amount of time, you have pushed your chest beyond failure.

I'd also be interested in how people feel about pre fatiguing a muscle. We can use an example of bench press and flyes again. Since the bench press is a compound movement and the flye is a isolation it would be a good example. Say you do one set of 6 repetitions for flyes, then immedietly go to the bench press and go to complete failure again for as many repetitions as you can get. Since in the second movement, a compound, your chest is aided by the deltoids and triceps, the point is to fatigue your chest, and then finish it off with a movement that helps your chest continue to work due to the help of the secondary muscles used. Does anyone use this in their training?

why not do drops sets instead. normally quicker and easier to set up.

i rarely do them as i do not see the point in the manner of my trianing style.

How do you gauge progress doing supersets? Also, what if you do not train to failure?

anyone can reach failure but i think what people are saying is that you cant lift your max weights when you superset. you cant use your max flye weights right after going to failure on a bench press. you need the 2-3 minute break.

i think supersetting has a more cardio element to it. it could add variety and it could save time for people who dont have it.

i dont superset because its just not my style. plus my gym is really crowded.

I've been doing ss with calf raises as a finishing movement lately. Things seem to be working in that regard, so can't really complain.
