Is there anything wrong with drinking once every 2 or 3 weeks?

Doubt it, drink water while drinking beer if you're that concerned about it though. I've heard liquor just rips your **** apart, but that beer at least has some nutritional value, if that makes any sense. So beer would be the lesser of two evils.

I think beer actually has more calories, than does hard liquor mixed with diet pop. In any event, the binge eating after the drinking is what kills most people. Once every 2-3 weeks though is nothing, I know a lot of people on this board do it more than that and still continue to gain.

I thought that the dehydration effect was caused by the "%vol" of alcochol, not the actual quantity of consumtion?, although i do know lager (beer in the North Americas) has more calories....

Anyway anytime i drink i try to avoid eating before hand, i know this is the opposite of "common knowledge". But the way i see it, if your body burns off alcohol calories before food/nutritional calories (which during this effect are stored as fat) the best thing to do is avoid food and drink up PLENTY of water during after.

I'm curently "trying" to build up without increasing fat storage, so far seems to be working fine even though i drink twice a week (4-6 beers only).

I don't know about the dehydration effect, but that's not what I'd be worried about when I'm drinking. The major concern is the cessation of protein synthesis for up to 48 hours or something following a night of drinking, and secondly, all of the empty calories you''re consuming.

Not eating beforehand is a decent strategy, but it makes it a lot easier to go overboard...not like I would know or anything .

why would there be anything wrong with drinking once every 2 or 3 weeks? Personally I don't like getting wasted but a beer now and then or some Tequilla does me good. Dehydration steers me clear of booze really.

Beer builds character and makes other people more interesting. What's not to like?

It's just more calories. As long as you don't have chronic alcoholism I doubt it will significantly effect your training any more than eating some extra bread.

Heck, recently, drinking a beer a day was shown to have similarly beneficial effects for cardiovascular health as drinking a glass of red wine.

It's not like it's going to put you back to square 1. And it's your buddy's birthday, just drink and show him a good time.

I advise against lifting and drinking at the same time.

So, if he wants to drink once in a while he should just quit lifting altogether?

Yes there are. You're poisoning your body to get a buzz. Obviously once in a while isn't that bad. That's why I asked how dedicated you are, and if you drink once in a while, then that's exactly how much. Enough to lift a lot and eat right but not enough to cut out the partying completely. We all have a limit as to how far we'll go.

Haha... Reminds be when my friend had a party he had a bench in his basement and a couple drunk guys went down there and started messing around. My friend had 255 on the bar and the guy tried to do it. He couldnt get it up and his buddie couldn't help him either so they were down there for a few minutes yelling help before someone went down and helped them. Twas very funny.

Drinking beer doesn't stop/decrease Protein Synthesis for 48 hours....that's crazy-talk. Back AWAY from the HST site.

Everyone I know drinks as much/more than I do, and they're all bigger than I am. I highly doubt my 6 or 7 roomates in college were ALL genetic freaks, and that the 12+ young guys at my gym are all on gear AND are genetic freaks. They all party like it's going out of style. The same goes for the 100+ people that drank 3 times a week at my college gym. All were buff.

Intense drinking isn't once (and maybe twice) a week isn't going to stop anything in the long run.

Until we stop citing studies that use rats with b*tch-tits who were force-fed bongs of pure alcohol, we're really not going to prove the OPPOSITE of what appears to be happening.....which is that occasional alcohol use (once, maybe twice a week) doesn't hinder longterm progress.

Especially in people in their early twenties, who have natural Test. levels that are almost steroid-like.

Lets see how many of the drinkers are drinking and on gear. If you are, plan on putting your name down on the pre-mortuary program

i really dont see the point in sacrificing so much for a nice body,
why did u want one in the first place?
u probably did it to attract women, feel better about urself, or for competitions.
but whts the point in doin all this work and then not bien able to enjoy urself?????? it defies the point...if u DO take it to such extremes...
not speakin bout u neceserilly, but to ne one who does sacrifice TOO much for a nice body

    alcohol kills brain cells..

its true, why do u think there are such ppl that are perminantly drunk to dumb to be sober.

gl with it, apart from high calories and a bunch of fradulent studies supporting alcohol intake to try and build a fat people world, drink all you want.

i dont drink, its bad, verrry bad, i am an over acheiver anyway, youll be hearing that from me..cause my motto is exellence is for posers...perfection is what its about.
think youve got an edge on me? think again.

Some of you guys make me feel real pathetic, so worried about drinkin' every couple of weeks. Hell I drink 3-5 beers everyday, I wonder how much that'll screw with my progress? I have a hard time stickin to a routine and I blame it on the beers, but really thats probably just a scapegoat. The real problem is probably not the 3-5 beers but not staying disciplined. Anyways sometimes I wish I could be just a weekend drinker, but I'm not I love my ale
