I'm a pretty big Pink Floyd fan but today I heard a song on the radio that I'm 99% sure was them but I don't know what it was. I was working and couldn't make out many of the lyrics. It was softer, more mellow and sounded somewhat like comfortably numb. I caught some lyrics but can't remember them now. However, I do believe towards the end a chorus comes in and some sort of a theme about once you're gone you can't come back or something like that was repeated a few times.
Anybody know what song this is? It's killing me, I gotta know!
There is a song on Division Bell called "High Hopes" that gets radio play sometime and it is a lesser known song to most Floyd fans. Here are the lyrics....
Beyond the horizon of the place we lived when we were young
In a world of magnets and miracles
Our thoughts strayed constantly and without boundary
The ringing of the division bell had begun
Along the long road and on down the causeway
Do they still meet there by the cut
There was a ragged band that followed in our footsteps
Running before time took our dreams away
Leaving the myriad small creatures trying to tie us to the ground
To a life consumed by slow decay
The grass was greener
The light was brighter
With friends surrounded
The nights of wonder
Looking beyond the embers of bridges glowing behind us
To a glimpse of how green it was on the other side
Steps taken forwards but sleepwalking back again
Dragged by the force of some inner tide
At a higher altitude with flag unfuried
We reached the dizzy heights of that dreamed of world
Encumbered forever by desire and ambition
There's a hunger still unsatisfied
Our weary eyes still stray to the horizon
though down this road we've been so many times
The grass was greener
The light was brighter
The taste was sweeter
The nights of wonder
With friends surrounded
The dawn mist glowing
The water flowing
The endless river
Forever and ever
it wasnt "wish you were here" was it?

It could have also been
"Shine On You Crazy Diamond"
And the lyrics....
"Once your gone, you can't come back" is from Neil Young's "My, My, Hey, Hey"
Great song...

Wasn't high hopes, wish you were here, or crazy diamond.
Like I said, I'm a pretty big Floyd fan and know most of their stuff. That's why this has got me baffled so much. It sounded so much like them, was really really good, and I had never heard it before too. *shrugs*
That song is great....
I like that 80's side of Floyd. You should check out David Gilmour's solo stuff. It's all really 80's sounding.
You've never head that before?Originally Posted by Behemoth
I like the live version of that song (I forget what album it's on)

You said what you heard sounded like Floyd...Originally Posted by Saint Patrick

Gyno, you listen to Ween, don't you?
(This isn't meant as an insult at all, btw, I'm seriously curious)
No, and I know absolutely zero about them.
Should I be listening to them?

Your humor reminds me of them. I wouldn't know how to describe them, they play just about every genre of music. Their song titles alone make me laugh.
If you want a band with the best song titles out there, check out stuff by the band "Anal C*nt".
I won't provide a link since their band name alone is too naughty for this site, but do a search to laugh pretty hard.

Haha yeah AC rocks. A friend told me about them a couple years ago and I've loved them ever since. "Your kid is deformed," "I noticed that you're gay," "I lit your baby on fire," "Hitler was a sensitive man." Classics.
